Base Class: Barbarian
The Path of the Roaring Flame requires a vast amount of discipline to master. Barbarians who choose to walk this path let go of their weapons in exchange for strength in their fists, letting them convert their adrenaline into pure fiery energy and channel it into their strikes.
A barbarian of the roaring flame is treated with respect by many, sometimes even being worshipped as a godlike entity due to the power they hold over their rage.
The Power Within
Your path is one that lets you be free from the confines of weaponry, letting you opt for more direct strikes to best your foes. When you choose this path at 3rd level, you gain the Unarmed Fighting style, which grants the following benefits:
- Your unarmed strikes can deal bludgeoning damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier. If you strike with two free hands, the d6 becomes a d8.
- When you successfully start a grapple, you can deal 1d4 bludgeoning damage to the grappled creature. Until the grapple ends, you can also deal this damage to the creature whenever you hit it with a melee attack.
Flames of Ire
Also at 3rd level, your rage has become more explosive, manifesting itself as fiery energy. When you go into a rage, you emit a 10-foot radius circular blast of fire centered on yourself. The blast deals 2d6 fire damage to you (which cannot be reduced in any way), but any other creature that is caught in the circle must make a Dexterity saving throw equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier, taking 3d6 fire damage and being knocked back 10 feet from you on a failed save. On a successful save, the creature takes half damage and doesn't get knocked back.
This damage increases to 3d6 to you and 4d6 to everything else at 6th level, then to 4d6 to you and 5d6 to everything else at 10th level.
Flame Discipline
At 6th level, your rage has had a lasting effect on you, letting you channel it in short bursts of flame. You learn the Burning Hands spell, which uses your Constitution modifier to determine the spell save DC. You can cast this spell a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all uses when you finish a long rest. You can cast it as a bonus action on each of your turns when you reach 14th level.
You are able to cast Burning Hands while you are raging.
Controlled Ire
Also at 6th level, you have learned to channel your fiery rage directly into your attacks. Your unarmed strikes now count as magical for the purposes of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical damage.
Additionally, when you go into a rage, your unarmed strikes deal an extra 1d6 fire damage on a hit. This damage increases to 1d8 when you reach 10th level.
Anger-Fueled Onslaught
At 10th level, you have further disciplined yourself in controlling your fiery rage, letting you make impossibly quick attacks. Immediately after taking the Attack action on your turn, you can make an additional unarmed strike as a bonus action.
Fireborn
At 14th level, you have taken complete control of your rage, granting you heightened physical and cognitive capabilities. You gain the following benefits:
- You have resistance to fire damage.
- You have blindsight of up to 10 feet.
When you go into a rage, you gain additional benefits:
- Instead of resistance, you have immunity to fire damage, as well as resistance to cold damage.
- You emit an aura of extreme heat, which extends up to 5 feet from you in all directions. Any creature that enters the aura or starts its turn there takes 2d6 fire damage.
