Posted Oct 18, 2023While this is an incredibly fun subclass, very fire-bendery, Fire Strike is currently above what we might consider balanced. After some discussion at my table we suggest the following changes:
- Reduce the level damage scaling on Fire Strike by 1 tier and delay the "on a success target takes half damage" feature, something like:
"At 6th level, targets that succeed their saving throw against your attacks still suffer half damage (rounded down). At 10th level, the damage increases to 3d6, and at 14th level the damage increases to 4d6."
Two 4d6 attacks with the potential to hit many enemies on a barbarian are plenty strong, wouldn't you say? For mathematical comparison per single attack, a 14th level barbarian with a +2 greatsword and 20str will do an average of 17 damage (12-22). Fire Strike will hit for an average of 14 (4-24) but can hit many more targets.
