Base Class: Monk
As a Monk of the Way of the Ethereal Veil you have trained your mind and body to be able to harness the powers of the Ethereal Plane, seeing and travelling in and out of it. When you focus your ki, you can temporarily shift yourself into the Border Ethereal, being able to move through objects and obstacles. You can also harness the powers of the Ether to push away your enemies and dissipate projectiles into smoke.
Monks of this tradition often have unique features that come from being repeatedly exposed Ethereal Plane, such as bright teal eyes, or light fog slowly billowing from under their clothes at all times.
Eyes of the Ethereal
Starting at 3rd level, whenever you use Patient Defense, you gain the following effects:
A mask of fog covers your face until the start of your next turn. Until the start of your next turn, you can see all invisible creatures and objects within 60 feet of you as if they were visible, and you can see into and interact with creatures in the Border Ethereal. If you hit an invisible creature or a creature in the Border Ethereal with an unarmed strike during this time, they must make a Wisdom saving throw. If they fail, any spell effects making them invisible instantaneously end or they are pulled out of the Border Ethereal into the closest unoccupied space. Once you use this feature in this way, you can't use it in this way again until you finish a short rest.
Dissipate Missiles
Starting at 3rd level, when you use Deflect Missiles, you may spend a number of ki points. The damage reduced by Deflect Missiles is increased by 1d8 for each ki point you spend. You may spend more ki points to reduce the damage further immediately after you use this ability. If this would reduce the damage to 0, the missile dissipates into smoke and you may not make a ranged attack with it as usual.
The amount of damage reduced per ki point spent increases to 1d10 at 11th level, and 1d12 at 17th level.
Ethereal Form
Starting at 6th level, you can temporarily travel into the Border Ethereal to gain a positional advantage. As an action on your turn, you may spend 1 ki point and gain the effects of the Etherealness spell until the end of your next turn, except you are still visible to creatures on your current plane, becoming translucent. You may end this effect as a bonus action on your turn.
When you reach 11th level, you may spend 1 additional ki point and touch one willing creature within 5 feet of you when you use this ability. If you do, they also gain the effects of this ability and may use their reaction to move an amount equal to half of their movement speed.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Cyclonic Displacement
Starting at 11th level, your exposure to the Border Ethereal has allowed you to draw upon the powers of the Deep Ethereal to empower your attacks. Summoning the power of Ether Cyclones to displace your enemies, when you hit a creature with Flurry of Blows, you may push that creature up to 15 feet away from you for each unarmed strike you hit them with. This movement does not provoke opportunity attacks from you.
One Between the Planes
At 17th level, you have learned how to rapidly travel between in and out of the Border Ethereal. As an action on your turn, you can spend 3 ki points to enter a state of harmony with the Ethereal Plane. For the next minute, you may use a bonus action to shift between the plane you are currently on and the Border Ethereal. After a minute passes, you automatically shift back into the plane you are currently on.
You can use this ability once, and may do so again after you finish a long rest.
