Base Class: Fighter
Whether as navymen for navies in service to nations, or as buccaneers on the seas seeking their own fortune, Naval Warriors are more than mere tradesmen sailors, they are sailors trained in how to best do battle on naval vessels. These specialized fighters are trained in the use of oceanic vessels, how to rig and crew such ships, and how to fight in the best ways aboard all such vessels, whether defending or raiding. They can often climb ropes and handle rigging with ease, capable of swinging on ropes regularly to traverse their ship. Also they become trained in how to man cannons, or often they master specialized nets that they deploy with unique throwing techniques. Most importantly, the "sea legs" a Naval Warrior develops are second-to-none, and their combat footwork is often quite impressive.
Bonus Proficiencies
3rd-level Naval Warrior feature
When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in Navigator's Tools and Water Vehicles.
Sea Dog
3rd-level Naval Warrior feature
At 3rd level, you learn the most vital skills of any navy-person, the skill of having capable "sea-legs" and being able to keep your footing on a rolling, rocking ocean vessel and also the training to utilize ropes and rigging deftly to operate upon an oceanic vessel. You gain proficiency in Acrobatics and whenever you make an Acrobatics check regarding balance, you may treat any roll of 9 or less as if it rolled a 10 instead. Additionally, you double your proficiency bonus on all Athletics checks regarding the usage of ropes (climbing, pulling, swinging, using rigging, etc). Lastly, if an effect would move you horizontally against your will, you reduce all such movement by 10 feet.
Scourge of the Seas
7th level Naval Warrior feature
At 7th level, you have been the veteran of many dangerous campaigns on the high seas, and you know one of two notable secrets of your trade, either manning cannons and all form of firearm with deadly skill, or how to use specialized nets that ensnare larger clusters of foes and impact them with more heft as a weapon would. Choose one of the following benefits:
Cannoneer. You are trained how to operate cannons and firearms. You gain proficiency in firearms and cannons. You can reload firearms in your hands as part of any action a number of times per day equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and additionally you can properly load a cannon as an action on your turn.
Net-Thrower. You are trained in how to throw two new nets: a Bolo Net, and a Barbed Net. You can modify two nets into one of these nets with one hour and 10 gold of simple materials. As an action on your turn with a Bolo Net in your hand, you spin in your square, rotating once or more, and you then choose a square within 60 feet to be the origin square of a 15-foot radius net effect. The Bolo Net then treats each creature in the net effect as if you succeeded on an attack roll with a net unless it succeeds at a Dexterity saving throw at a DC equal to 8 + your Dexterity modifier + your Proficiency Bonus. Alternately with a Bolo Net in your hand, you may use this action to target one Huge size creature and attack it with this net as if it were a Large size or smaller creature (and a normal net attack). You cannot use this action again with an unfurled Bolo Net unless you first take an action to gather it up. When you attack a creature with a Barbed Net, that creature suffers 2 piercing damage each time it rolls a Strength check to escape the net. Enchanting a Barbed net improves this damage by each +1 of the magical bonus. For example, a +1 magical Barbed Net attacks with a +1 bonus to attack rolls and deals 3 damage each time the enemy rolls a Strength check to escape.
Wave Warrior
10th-level Naval Warrior feature
At 10th level, you have become so proficient and dangerous in all of the ways in which warfare occurs on the high seas that you are regaled as a true warrior of the waves. If you are aboard a boat, ship, or oceanic vessel, you have advantage on all Acrobatics checks. Additionally, you cannot be moved by nonmagical effects against your will. Lastly, if you move more than 10 feet in your turn and make an attack roll against a creature, that creature cannot use reactions until the end of your turn. If you performed this attack swinging on or using ropes or using nets, other creatures within 10 feet of you at the time of the attack cannot use reactions until the end of your turn.
Legend of the High Seas
15th-level Naval Warrior feature
At 15th level, you have become feared and respected as a powerful warrior upon the seas, and your ship and crew are likely a legend associated with your name, whether you Captain your vessel or merely serve upon it. Your dangerous exploits are the tales the drunken old sea dogs whisper in tones of warning, everywhere you've ever been. Choose one of the following benefits:
Cannonade. You can orchestrate a Cannonade volley with terrifying speed. If you have a number of cannons up to 2 + your proficiency bonus loaded and ready to fire, you can use one action to fire them all at once as you fire any one of them yourself, replacing the need for each cannon to have its own operator for this shot. You cannot perform this action again until all cannons are fully loaded. Additionally, you can reload 2 cannons simultaneously within a number of feet of you equal to your Speed by expending your bonus action and your action on your turn.
Iron Net. You learn to use and craft better and sturdier nets. Whether steeled cable, serpentine link, or chain, you now can make a net of any kind that you can wield as an Iron Net. You gain proficiency in Smith's Tools, and with these tools in hand and ten times the cost of the net you make in steel, you can use a 2-hour process to create an Iron Net. Any net you wield in this way has a DC 13 Strength check to escape from, and 15 points of slashing damage must be dealt to it before it is destroyed. When you make a Bolo Net as an Iron Net, the DC of the saving throw caused by the area of the net effect improves by +2. When you make a barbed net as an Iron Net, it is easier to install more pointy barbs into, and the damage it deals when the target makes a Strength check is increased by +1.
Terror of the Oceans
18th-level Naval Warrior feature
At 18th level, you've mastered the last, most needed skill of any high seas warrior, that of concise communication and ruthless efficiency. Your crew and your friends know your body language, and understand your speech so that simple commands inspire complex actions to be taken, and form a crew and a team around you at sea. You have advantage on all Charisma checks to interact with allied creatures aboard any boat, ship, or oceanic vessel. Similarly, you have advantage on all Intimidate checks while aboard any boat, ship, or oceanic vessel.
Additionally, you read the seas with your senses, knowing when and where to strike with the lurch of the waves for devastating effect. Weapon attack rolls you make score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20 when you are aboard any boat, ship, or oceanic vessel.
