Base Class: Barbarian
The Path of the Remnant Flame is a journey into the depths of a barbarian's rage, where their inner fire burns with an intensity that can consume both their enemies and themselves. This subclass explores the lore of a barbarian who has mastered the art of controlling and tempering their inner inferno, transforming it into a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.
At the heart of the Path of the Remnant Flame is the relentless pursuit of harnessing and channeling the overwhelming fury that resides within the barbarian's soul. Their rage transcends mere anger—it manifests as a burning inferno that engulfs their entire being, threatening to incinerate all in its path. However, through rigorous training and unwavering discipline, these barbarians have learned to tame the flames within, turning their raging inferno into a formidable weapon.
Mastering their internal fire is a grueling process that requires profound emotional understanding, a connection to the primal forces of fire, and the ability to control and channel raw power. The barbarian must embrace their anger, using it as a catalyst to fuel their actions, igniting the flames within and transforming themselves into an unstoppable force. They confront their inner demons, acknowledging the potential destructive nature of their rage, and embark on a journey to temper the flames, to control their burning fury, and to wield it with precision and purpose.
As they progress along the Path of the Remnant Flame, these barbarians become true masters of their inner inferno. Their aura of flames becomes a symbol of their indomitable will and power, radiating an intense heat that strikes fear into the hearts of their enemies. Their weapons become conduits for fire, their strikes leaving a trail of scorching destruction. They can conjure walls of flame to imprison foes or unleash waves of fire with a single swing of their blade.
However, this power comes at a price. The Path of the Remnant Flame demands constant vigilance, for the line between control and chaos is thin. Yielding to uncontrolled rage can result in devastating consequences, not only for the barbarian but also for those around them. The Remnant Flame barbarian's journey is a perpetual battle against the temptation to let their flames consume everything, to lose themselves in the overwhelming power that burns within.
Ultimately, those who walk the Path of the Remnant Flame emerge as formidable warriors, wielding the fires of their rage with calculated precision. They have learned to control the inferno within, transforming their anger into a tempered force that strikes fear into the hearts of their enemies. Yet, they must always remember that the flames they wield are a double-edged sword, capable of both destruction and redemption. Only through unwavering discipline and mastery can they keep their inner fire in check, ensuring that their flames bring justice and protection rather than chaos and ruin.

Ember Blade
3rd-level Path of Remnant Flame feature
Upon embracing the Path of Remnant Flame at 3rd level, your rage becomes intertwined with the essence of fire itself. As you enter a rage, you can harness the burning fury within you to envelop your weapon in scorching flames, consuming all who dare stand against you. This transformation occurs effortlessly, as if the flames were an extension of your very being.
While your weapon is wreathed in these blazing flames, it deals an additional 1d4 fire damage on a successful hit, in addition to its normal damage type. This fiery surge of power resonates with each strike you make during your turn, ensuring that your enemies feel the searing wrath of your inferno.
Furthermore, as you awaken this ability, you unlock two specialized techniques: Fortress Blaze and Torch. These techniques embody the versatility and adaptability of your blazing rage. Whether you need to fortify your defenses with impenetrable fire or unleash a devastating conflagration upon your foes, you can choose between these techniques to suit your strategic needs. However, be mindful that the choice of these techniques can only be altered after a period of rest, allowing you to recalibrate your fiery arsenal and choose the most suitable approach for the battles that lie ahead.
Fortress Blaze:
3rd-level Ember Blade feature
This technique allows you to create a wall of flames to hinder enemies. As an action, you can create a 5-foot-radius sphere of fire centered on a point you can see within 30 feet of you. Creatures within the area must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC is equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier) or take 1d6 fire damage. Additionally, their speed is reduced by 10 feet until the start of your next turn. Large or larger creatures automatically succeed on the saving throw. The sphere of fire lasts for 1 minute or until your rage ends.
Torch
3rd-level Ember Blade feature
This technique allows you to unleash a wave of fire with a swing of your blade. As an action, you make a ranged spell attack against a creature within 30 feet of you. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 fire damage. A flammable object hit by this attack ignites if it isn't being worn or carried. This damage increases to 2d8 at 10th level, 3d8 at 15th level, and 4d8 at 20th level.
Fortress Blaze
3rd-level Ember Blade feature
This technique creates an immense wall of flame, which surrounds the target and forms a huge 5-foot-radius sphere contained of flame in which to imprison enemies. Any creatures within the area are caught and contained unless they are large or bigger. All creatures caught inside can make a Strength Saving throw (DC is equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier) to break free of the cage at the end of each turn but will take 1d6 points of fire damage from coming in contact with the flames. All creatures who touch the cage also take 1d6 points of fire damage. Creatures within the fire cage have full cover. The cage lasts for 1 minute or until your rage ends.
Torch
3rd-level Ember Blade feature
This technique allows you to unleash a wave of fire with a swing of your blade. As an action, when you have Ember Blade active, you make a ranged spell attack against a creature within 30 feet of you. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 fire damage. A flammable object hit by this attack ignites if it isn't being worn or carried. This damage increases to 2d8 at 10th level, 3d8 at 15th level, and 4d8 at 20th level.
Scorched Soul
6th-level Path of Remnant Flame feature
At 6th level, upon activation, any flames previously produced by Fiery Rage are instantly absorbed into your Ember Blade. Scorched Soul incorporates the full power of your rage's flames into the blade: the flames within the blade burn anything it cuts into. When you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack using your burning blade while raging, you can cause an additional 1d6 fire damage to that creature's soul for up to a number of rounds equal to your proficiency bonus.
At the start of the affected creature's turn, it takes the fire damage from Scorch the Soul. The initial damage and the repeating damage are both 1d6.
Starting at 10th level, the additional fire damage increases to 2d6, at 14th level it increases to 3d6, and at 18th level it increases to 4d6.
You can use this ability a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses of this feature when you finish a long rest. Only one creature can be affected by this ability at a time, and the effect ends on a creature when it is applied to another. An affected creature can attempt to quell the flame as a bonus action on its turn by making a Wisdom saving throw whose DC is equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier. On a success, the effect ends on the target.
Protective Cloak of the Phoenix Flame
10th-level Path of Remnant Flame feature
At 10th level, your mastery over the flames within reaches new heights, allowing you to conceal the visible manifestations of your Fiery Rage unless you choose to reveal them. While you are consumed by this controlled inferno, your very essence becomes impervious to fire's destructive touch. Flames that would scorch others slide harmlessly off your body, unable to penetrate the protective cloak of the Phoenix Flame that surrounds you.
Furthermore, your connection to the raging fire grants you a remarkable ability to sustain yourself amidst the chaos of battle. While engulfed in your unbridled rage, you gain immunity to fire damage, rendering infernal assaults futile against your hardened form. Additionally, as a testament to your indomitable will, you can channel the seething power within you to replenish your vitality. With a swift bonus action, you can draw upon your inner inferno, regaining hit points equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of 1) plus the ferocity of your rage as shown in the Rage Damage column of the Barbarian table. This rejuvenating surge can only be invoked once during each bout of unbridled fury, reminding you of the finite nature of your ability to harness the restorative flames of the Phoenix.
Soul Immolation
14th-level Path of Remnant Flame feature
At 14th level, your rage transforms into an all-consuming inferno, capable of engulfing your foes. When you hit a creature with a melee attack using your Ember Blade, the target must make a DC {{8+proficiency+modifier:con}} Constitution saving throw, taking 5d6 fire damage + 20 force damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. If this damage reduces the target to 0 hit points, it is consumed by the raging flames, leaving behind only ashes as a testament to their demise. This effect can only be undone by the most powerful resurrection magic or a wish spell. Once you use this feature, your Rage automatically ends and you take two levels of exhaustion. This feature cannot be used again until you finish a long rest.
