Base Class: Wizard
Enamored by the majesty of dragons, you have decided to study their ways. You focus your study on magics that depend on the Primal Chaos and the ways dragons bend it to their will. Learning how to harness the magics of dragons is no easy task and requires much study and practice. Art by: angel5art
Draconic Tutelage
Beginning when you select this school at 2nd level, You learn to speak, read, and write Draconic. Additionally, the time you must spend to copy a draconic element type spell into your spellbook is halved.
Chaos Surge
Starting when you choose this school at 2nd level, your spellcasting can unleash surges of chaos magic. Immediately after you cast a wizard spell of 1st level or higher, the DM can have you roll a d20. If you roll a 1, roll on the Chaotic Surge table to create a random magical effect. A Chaotic Surge can happen once per turn. (The Chaotic Surge Table is viewed only by the DM)
Chaos Student
Your studies in draconic nature have granted you much knowledge in the ways of dragons. You have become somewhat of a beacon for smaller baby dragons in and around where you are, some of which curious about you and what you are. You may decide to allow one of these curious younglings to join you on your travels. Teaching them the magics and techniques you have learned in your studies will have benefits as you gain levels in this class. (Determined by your DM).
Starting at 6th level, You gain a baby dragon companion that accompanies you on your adventures. The type of baby dragon is determined by you and your DM and uses the Pseudodragon stat block. Add your proficiency bonus instead of the dragons to the dragon's AC, attack rolls, and damage rolls, as well as to any saving throws and skills it is proficient in. Its hit point maximum equals its normal maximum or four times your wizard level, whichever is higher. Like any creature, the dragon can spend Hit Dice during a short rest.
As an action, you can magically call the baby dragon to your side, if not already there. It appears in an unoccupied space of your choice within 30 feet of you.
The dragon is friendly to you and your companions, and it obeys your commands.
In combat, the dragon shares your initiative count, but it takes its turn immediately after yours. It can move and use its reaction on its own, but the only action it takes on its turn is the Dodge action, unless you take a bonus action on your turn to command it to take another action. That action can be one in its stat block or some other action.
If you are incapacitated or absent, your dragon companion acts on its own, focusing on protecting you and itself. It never requires your command to use its reaction, such as when making an opportunity attack.
If the dragon dies, you can obtain another one by spending 8 hours magically bonding with another dragon that isn't hostile to you, either the same type of dragon as before or a different one.
Draconic Spellcasting
Starting at 10th level, you have learned how to emulate the way certain dragons cast spells. You gain the ability to cast a number of spells whose added level is equal to or less than a third of your wizard level, rounded down, without expending spell slots. You must have these spells prepared when you cast them this way. You can cast these spells without material components.
You regain the use of the spell levels granted by this feature when you finish a long rest.
Ebbs and Flows
At 14th level, your study of dragons and the energy they wield has allowed you to tap into the primal chaos itself for brief stints. When you are the target of a spell, or when an area of effect spell would damage you, you may make an Intelligence save against the spell casters Spell Save DC, upon a success, you redirect this spell as your chaotic magics distort the spells original nature towards a target of your choosing, or a location of your choosing if the spell was an area of effect. Redirecting a spell in this way requires you to roll a D20, on a 2-19, it functions as normal, on a 20, the spell is Twinned as if the Metamagic Twinned Spell were used, on a 1, the spell is redirected to a random target or to a random location if the spell was an area of effect, and you must roll on the Chaos Surge table a number of times equal to the spells level.
You may use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier regaining expended uses upon finishing a long rest.
