Warlock
Base Class: Warlock

Establishing a link to an Old One causes any who look upon it to either go completely mad or on rare occasions, granted a fraction of the power of these beings. You are one of these special cases. The Old One Axlevias has chosen as their emissary in this realm. With the Augur granted to you tap into the Old One's power to further its reach through your world.

Cosmic Knowledge

You use your otherworldly knowledge of the Old One Axlevias to cast spells using Wisdom rather than Charisma.

Gifted by Axlevias

You start with 1 Augur of Axlevias in your inventory. This Augur allows you to tap into the power of your patron and any given time. Also serves as a means to directly contact the Old One.

Augur of Axlevias

"Remnant of the eldritch Truth encountered at Byrgenwerth. Use phantasms, the invertebrates known to be the augurs of the Great Ones,
to partially summon radiant Axlevias. Further studies of the cosmos revealed a burning sun unseen by man.
"

Player Interaction(s):

This phantasm takes the shape of a bluish violet sea slug with many orange hair-like appendages dotting its back. This slug appears to have a mild sense of self and is able to form a sort of fondness for its user. (Acts similarly to an animal companion but cannot act in battle outside of its buffs).

Weapon Interaction(s):

If you have a Broken Boom Bammer you can upgrade the weapon into a Sunlight Boom Hammer. If the Augur of Axlevias is not on your person, the Sunlight Boom Hammer reverts to the Broken Boom Hammer.

Class Interaction(s):

You can use 1 bonus action to apply a 2d6 fire buff to any weapon in 1 hand or 1 two-handed weapon.

Axlevias Aura

Starting at 6th level, you can create a 50-foot radius of heat around you OR your Augur of Axlevias, but not both at once. The temperature of this ability can be finely controlled by the caster. (The temperature, however, cannot be reduced below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. But can be increased indefinitely above the minimum.)

Heat Dangers:
  • Heat deals nonlethal damage that cannot be recovered until the character gets cooled off (reaches shade, survives until nightfall, gets doused in water, is targeted by endure elements, and so forth). Once rendered unconscious through the accumulation of nonlethal damage, the character begins to take lethal damage at the same rate.

  • A character in very hot conditions (above 90° F) must make a Fortitude saving throw each hour (DC 15, +1 for each previous check) or take 1d4 points of nonlethal damage. Characters wearing heavy clothing or armor of any sort take a -4 penalty on their saves. A character with the Survival skill may receive a bonus on this saving throw and may be able to apply this bonus to other characters as well (see the skill description). Characters reduced to unconsciousness begin taking lethal damage (1d4 points per hour).

  • In severe heat (above 110° F), a character must make a Fortitude save once every 10 minutes (DC 15, +1 for each previous check) or take 1d4 points of nonlethal damage. Characters wearing heavy clothing or armor of any sort take a -4 penalty on their saves. A character with the Survival skill may receive a bonus on this saving throw and may be able to apply this bonus to other characters as well. Characters reduced to unconsciousness begin taking lethal damage (1d4 points per each 10-minute period).

  • A character who takes any nonlethal damage from heat exposure now suffers from heatstroke and is fatigued.

  • These penalties end when the character recovers the nonlethal damage they took from the heat.

  • Extreme heat (air temperature over 140° F, fire, boiling water, lava) deals lethal damage. Breathing air in these temperatures deals 1d6 points of damage per minute (no save). In addition, a character must make a Fortitude save every 5 minutes (DC 15, +1 per previous check) or take 1d4 points of nonlethal damage. Those wearing heavy clothing or any sort of armor take a -4 penalty on their saves. In addition, those wearing metal armor or coming into contact with very hot metal are affected as if by a heat metal spell.

  • Boiling water deals 1d6 points of scalding damage, unless the character is fully immersed, in which case it deals 10d6 points of damage per round of exposure.

Eyes of an Old One

The eyes of an Old One irreparably harm those who gaze upon them, either breaking their minds or killing them instantly. Your eyes are augmented by the power of Axlevias for a short time, allowing you to mirror this otherworldly ability. Extremely straining on beings other than the Old Ones, those who use these eyes remain in a weakened state for a single week after they use it.

  • Starting at 10th level, you can use the spells Maddening Stare and Terrifying Blink.
  • Starting at 15th level, you can use the spell Killing Stare.
  • You can only use ONE of these spells between cooldowns. (Ex: If you use Terrifying Blink, you cannot use Maddening Stare or Killing Stare until your next long rest.)
  • Maddening Stare and Killing Stare take 1 week to reset and your max health drops by 1d6 for this week, max health returns to normal after the week passes. (Excludes Terrifying Blink).

Effects

Terrifying Blink

At 10th level, you can use one of your augmented eyes quickly for 1-10 seconds. Terrifying 1 target in your line of sight.

Roll a d100 (Percentile + d10) Apply 1 effect based on the result:
  • 1-24: No effect.
  • 25-50: Your target is blinded momentarily.
  • 51-100: Your target is frightened. Leaving them stunned in fear.

Unlike Maddening Stare and Killing Stare, This variant of the ability resets on long rest and does not reduce your max hit points while the ability is on cooldown.

Maddening Stare

You use this spell using 1 of your eyes. You have a chance to break the mind of 1 target in range and have them go mad.

Roll a d100 (Percentile + d10). Apply 1 effect based on the result:
  • 1-49: No effect.
  • 50-74: -5 to target's base Wisdom or Intelligence, whichever is higher. (Your choice if tied). If the target's WIS or INT is lower than 5, drop it to 1.
  • 75-100: Add disadvantage to the target's Wisdom or Intelligence checks for 3 hours. This effect dissipates if the target goes 400ft away from the user of the ability.

After use, reduce your hit points by 1d6 until 1 week after using this spell.

If you attempt to use this spell again before it resets, the hit point reduction becomes permanent.

Killing Stare

Starting at 15th level, you can use this spell with both eyes, possibly killing your target. Not only breaking their mind, but also leaving your target effectively brain dead.

Roll a d100 (Percentile + d10). Apply 1 effect based on the result:
  • 1-49: No effect.
  • 50-79: Your target's hit points are halved.
  • 80-89: Your target's hit points reduced to 1.
  • 90-100: Your target is killed outright.

After use, reduce your hit points by 1d6 until 1 week after using this spell.

If you attempt to use this ability again before it resets, the health reduction becomes permanent.

Arms of Axlevias

Starting at 14th level, you can create up to 6 tentacles from your back with a range of 25ft each. Resets after a short rest.

Tentacle effects:
  • Each tentacle can be controlled independently of one another.
  • You can grab objects or creatures within 25ft of you with the tentacles
  • If you hold an object or creature with a tentacle for any longer than 5 minutes, the object will catch on fire if flammable and produces similar results to being over an open flame if it is not flammable.
  • You can use the tentacles to cast fire-based spells with a fixed +5 to their damage roll.
  • If you hit a target with a tentacle, inflict 1d6 fire per tentacle strike.
