Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

In areas where the Hoplites are trained, this is the type of military training that is provided to every able-bodied man who is demanded by tradition and law to join the nation's military and work together to serve the region as defenders of their lands or aggressors in their lands' warfare. The Hoplites are trained to travel, and are capable field survivors, who often engage in campaigns in which they are capable cooperators in erecting tent camps and even storm-sheltered encampments. The most capable Hoplites often achieve a rank of Strategus, or general, often being conferred a senatorial seat, and becoming able to command Hoplites all their own in service to their goals. Considering how capably Hoplites cooperate in combat, this is a powerful advantage in many scenarios.

In Avalestra, the city of Mentus employs Genasi Hoplites of all four elemental types, and they strive in service to the Elemental Throne of Emperor Solias, the Living Sun, a Solar Celestial who has obtained the power of a Fire Elemental through a unique noble birthright, he is the immortal emperor of the empire of Mentus and commander of the Hoplite armies of their empire.

Hoplite Training

3rd-level Hoplite feature

At 3rd level in this class, you have become trained in the combat tactics of the Hoplite, which strongly emphasize usage of a shield and a spear. All Hoplites learn to work in formations that take advantage of these weapons and defenses so that when working together on the battlefield, they are incomparably more survivable than unorganized melee infantry. You gain the Shield Master feat, and when you are equipped with a shield and are wielding a spear, you gain a +1 bonus on attack rolls with this weapon and always attack as if you were attacking two-handed with it.

Field Training

7th-level Hoplite feature

At 7th level, the Hoplite has endured enough campaigns to have achieved expertise in establishing camps and enduring the elements for days on end if required in their campaigns. You can set up camp and take down camp in half the time as normal, and if another able-bodied creature assists you, you can reduce that amount of time by 1d6 minutes, to a bare minimum of 1 minute. If you choose to take twice as long setting up your camp, you can establish a camp that can shelter others in all weather except driving hail, and gale force or stronger winds. Within this shelter, yourself and a number of other creatures equal to your proficiency bonus can achieve this protection within the structure you build, and the structure safely houses one small campfire with safe ventilation for it if you choose. When you take down camp, you may choose to take twice as long as normal to eliminate any traces of your encampment. Only a creature searching the area very closely could tell anyone had camped there, and any such rolls to detect traces have disadvantage. You must have or carry a tent to build the structure needed for this feature.

Additionally, you gain proficiency in Survival.

Dangerous Unity

10th-level Hoplite feature

At 10th level, you come to understand that capable soldiers go no where alone, and your combat capability has attracted a devout brother or sister in arms who agrees that their best chance of survival is with their back to your own. You attract a Sidekick of the Warrior class that is of your class level. This Sidekick receives the benefits of the Hoplite Training feature. If your Sidekick is lost or killed, and you publicly honor them properly for their service, such as by hosting their funeral, you will attract another Sidekick from your army in 1d4 days.

Additionally, if you are adjacent to a creature and you and that creature are both equipped with a shield, you can use a bonus action to grant yourself and that creature half cover from ranged attacks until you are no longer adjacent to that creature. You may only confer this benefit to yourself and one other creature at one time.

Hoplite Commander

15th-level Hoplite feature

At 15th level, you have earned the ranking of "field commander" or Dioikitis, and you are able to utilize incredible tactics that make your usage of the spear into an elite weapon of doom for your enemies. You have a salary you earn for your service, which pays you your level x 50 gold coins every month, delivered to your home or a safe place of your choosing that you may withdraw from freely. This salary will even continue to arrive even when you have retired from active service to your army.

Additionally, when you are wielding a spear, you improve the thrown range of the weapon to 40/120, damage rolls you make with the weapon reroll 1s once, and if you attack with the piercing end of the spear, you deal +1 damage with the weapon.

Strategos

18th-level Hoplite feature

At 18th level, you gain the full-throated endorsement of the empire in your service to their armies. They grant you the title of Stratego, and you are bestowed the command of elite Hoplites all your own. You attract a number of additional Sidekicks of the Warrior class equal to your Proficiency Bonus minus one. Each of these Warriors is of your class level and has the benefit of the Hoplite Training feature. Whenever one of your Sidekicks gained from this feature is lost or killed, and you publicly honor their service, such as by hosting their funeral, you will attract another Sidekick in 1d4 days.

Additionally, you always greatly inspire your followers, and all your Sidekicks gain a 1d3 bonus to their attack rolls and saving throws as long as you are conscious.
