Base Class: Monk
Monks who follow the Way of the Chrysanthemum Weave take a path where, rather than focusing on martial prowess like other monastic traditions, they focus their Ki and discipline their bodies to tap into the faint threads Weave - the source of all raw magic in the Forgotten Realms. Monks of the Chrysanthemum Weave believe that it is not knowledge that allows one to control the chaotic energies of the Weave, but rather the harmony of mind and body achieved through discipline and training. Training endlessly to tap into the faint, old source of magic in the world, monks of the Chrysanthemum Weave are adept mage-slayers, and with enough training can even cast spells that rival those of adept mages. They can use their Ki to defend against spells, or cripple their opponents ability to concentrate. Monks who are skilled enough can even cause small pieces of the weave to manifest in a tangible form, and through intense training can use these pieces to channel magical effects and attacks of their own.
Deflect Magic
Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can channel your Ki to defend against attacks from magical sources.
You gain the ability to use your Deflect Missiles reaction on ranged spell attacks by spending 1 point of Ki. You can reduce the damage you take from a damaging spell as if it were a missile to which the Deflect Missiles feature applies. If you reduce the spell attack to 0 damage, you cannot throw the attack as you would with a non-magical missile, even if the spell manifests in a physical form.
When you are targeted by a damaging spell that requires a save, you can spend 1 point of Ki to add your proficiency modifier to your save before you know the result of the roll. This bonus still applies even if you are already proficient in the saving throw.
Weaving with Ki
Your time spent meditating on the subtle fabric of the Weave allows you to tap into the errant strands of magic around you, using your Ki as a focus for the chaotic energies.
When you gain this feature at level 3, you may choose up to three cantrips from the Wizard spell list. You can spend 1 point of Ki to cast any of the spells as a bonus action, without verbal or material components.
Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can spend an hour of meditation to swap your cantrips with any other cantrip on the Wizard spell list. Alternatively, you can also swap your cantrips with any cantrips written in a Wizard's spell book if you spend an hour meditating while holding the book.
Ki Blocking
At 6th level, you gain the ability to channel your Ki directly into the bodies of your opponents. When you successfully hit a target with three or more unarmed strikes, you can choose to impose one of the following conditions on the target by spending 1 point of Ki:
- Disadvantage on a concentration check for maintaining a spell as your Ki addles the mind of a spellcaster, or
- A -2 penalty to the target's AC as your precision strikes numb the body and make dodging more difficult.
These penalties last until the end of your next turn.
Petals of The Weave
At 11th level, you gain the ability to concentrate small pieces of The Weave into tangible forms around you. At dawn of every day, ethereal flower petals form and orbit around you. You regenerate 1+ your Wisdom modifier petals at dawn of each day, and can have a maximum of 1+ your Wisdom modifier petals at one time. The petals are incorporeal, but do shed dim light for 5 feet around you.
Whenever you take the attack action, you may replace any of your unarmed strikes that you would normally take with a ranged spell attack using one of your petals. The petals have a range of 40/120 and deal your martial arts die + your Wisdom modifier in Force damage. These petal attacks count as Unarmed Strikes for the purpose of the Ki Blocking feature.
Your petals, being born of the Weave, grant you the ability to abjure against other magical effects. As a reaction, you can spend 2 petals to cast Counterspell at the 3rd level. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this spell. Your petals turn into streaking specks of pure magic as you attempt to disrupt the spell.
You may spend an action to consume all remaining petals orbiting you. You instantly regain a number of Ki points equal to half of the consumed petals, rounded down (e.g. you can consume 4 petals to regain 2 points of Ki).
Full Bloom
At 17th level, your Petals of the Weave become stronger, and your Ki becomes more in tune with the subtleties of the Weave, allowing you better control over them. You now regenerate 3+ your Wisdom modifier petals at dawn, and your maximum number of petals increases to double your Wisdom modifier +2.
Your petals, being born of the Weave, grant you the ability to abjure against other magical effects. As an action, you shoot a number of petals at a location or creature, and can cast the following effects:
- You can spend extra petals to increase the potency of your Counterspell from Petals of the Weave. Every 2 additional petals used increases Counterspell's level by 1.
- You can spend 3 petals to cast Death Ward. Your petals flow over and orbit the head of the target creature.
- You can spend 6 petals to cast Globe of Invulnerability centered on you or a creature within 30 feet that you can see. You shoot all 6 petals into the ground, whereupon a barrier in the shape of a giant, shimmering Chrysanthemum blooms from the ground.
