Base Class: Ranger
Blade Dancers undergo a punishing training regimen to meld body and steel into a single deadly weapon. Your blades act as extensions of your body, parrying, feinting, and striking in interlocking patterns that can only be described as a dance. As you move effortlessly through the chaos of battle, your enemies are helpless to keep up with your whirling steps and plunging blades.
Blade Dancer Magic
3rd-level Blade Dancer feature
You learn an additional spell when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Blade Dancer Spells table. Each spell counts as a ranger spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of ranger spells you know.
Blade Dancer Spells
RANGER LEVEL | SPELLS |
---|---|
3rd | jump |
5th | warding wind |
9th | water walk |
13th | freedom of movement |
17th | tree stride |
Luring Strike
3rd-level Blade Dancer feature
Once on your turn when you hit a creature with a weapon attack after moving, you can deal 1d6 additional weapon damage and move the target 5 feet into a space you just left, provided it is no more than one size larger than you.
Starting at 11th level, you can use this feature twice on your turn.
Deadly Grace
3rd-level Blade Dancer feature
You gain proficiency in Acrobatics if you don't already have it. Whenever you make a Charisma (Performance) check, you gain a bonus to the check equal to your Dexterity modifier (minimum of +1).
You may make the attack granted by Two-Weapon Fighting as a part of the Attack action rather than using a bonus action.
Additionally, when you make a melee attack against a creature, you can move through the space of that creature whether you hit or not, providing you have the movement to do so. You must end your movement in an unoccupied space.
Whirling Parry
7th-level Blade Dancer feature
When you are wielding at least one melee weapon and another creature hits you with a weapon attack, you can use your reaction to add your proficiency bonus to your AC for that attack. After the attack is resolved, you can move up to 10 feet as a part of the same reaction.
Blade Dance
11th-level Blade Dancer feature
When you take the Attack action, you can move 10 feet before each attack as long as your speed is greater than 0. This movement does not draw opportunity attacks and it does not count against your available movement for the turn. If you attack at least two different creatures with the action, you can make one additional attack against a third creature as a part of the same action.
Additionally, you may use Luring Strike twice on your turn.
Steely Deflection
15th-level Blade Dancer feature
When you use Whirling Parry and the attack misses, you can force the attacker to repeat the attack against another creature that was within 5 feet of you at any point during your 10 feet of movement.
Author's Note
Alternate Spells
There were other spells considered for the Blade Dancer spell list, but most are not freely available to everyone and thus not available through D&D Beyond homebrew. If you have access to them and your DM is okay with it, you may replace your granted spell with one of the following provided they are the same spell level: (1st) Zephyr Strike, (2nd) Shadow Blade, (3rd) Ashardalon's Stride, (4th) Staggering Smite, (5th) Steel Wind Strike. The easiest way to make this replacement is to simply edit the spell name on your Character Sheet and look it up separately when you need to see the text. Otherwise you will need to create a private homebrew magic item or feat to grant you access to the spell.
