Base Class: Monk
Harness the dark and devouring techniques of the Oni. You surrender yourself to the lust for Ki, going so far as to take it from your foes. Delving even deeper into the powers of the Oni you are able to take upon their form making enemies tremble in fear of you and being able to consume your own Ki to push your physical abilities to that of an Oni. Monks that follow this path have an insatiable lust for Ki.
This subclass was inspired by a few different subclasses made for the monk, and I ended up going for a style that I haven't seen yet. I went for a style of a ki point generator and consumer. Please give feedback. I think it might be a bit too strong, but I guess that might be better than finding out its ridiculously weak.
Version 3.0 - Changed some abilities around to be more centered on a specific play style.
Devouring Strike
At 3rd level, you gain the ability to eat and absorb the Ki of a creature to replenish your own. When you hit another creature with an unarmed attack, you can attempt a devouring strike to steal their Ki energy and block their Ki flow. The creature must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save you replenish 2 Ki points. On a successful save you instead replenish 1 Ki point. If you deal the killing blow with this technique you don't spend a use of this feature. If the target of this attack has Ki points, the target loses the amount gained by you.
You can not gain more Ki than your maximum Ki pool. This feature can be used a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1) per short or long rest.
Presence of an Oni
At 6th level, you can spend 2 Ki points as a bonus action to manifest an Oni spirit that becomes a visible aura around you gaining temporary hit points equal to twice your class level plus your Wisdom modifier. Upon summoning the Oni, your unarmed strikes reach is increased by 5 feet and deal extra damage to the target equal to your Martial Arts die.
You lose these benefits when the temporary hit points are gone.
This feature can be used again after a short or long rest.
Demonic Burst
Beginning at 11th level, you can focus your ki to do bursts of harmful energy. Whenever you make an unarmed strike and hit, you can spend ki points to deal an extra 1d6 necrotic damage per Ki point spent up to a maximum of 5 Ki points.
Oni's Hunger
At 17th level, you are able to open a gate within yourself and devour your own Ki to maximize your physical output at the cost of overexertion. As a bonus action, you can spend 3 Ki points to gain the following effects in addition to a single horn that grows from your forehead if you don't already have a horn(s). The transformation consumes 1 Ki point at the start of your turn. If you have no Ki points at the start of your turn, the transformation ends. When the transformation ends, you gain three levels of exhaustion.
- You regenerate 10 hit points at the start of your turn if you have at least 1 hit point.
- You gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed.
- You have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from nonmagical weapons.
- When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can make one additional attack as part of that action.
