Base Class: Bard
Some bards are musical, some are Fey, or some other serious school of thought, but the College of Jest bard is all about having a good time! Through their use of pithy one-liners, terrible puns, and amusing stories this bard is able to boost their allies morale or deflate an enemies confidence with a well-timed insult.
Earning your chops
Level 3 College of Jest Feature
There are so many ways comedy can affect the world, and a hundred ways of telling a good joke! Whether it's a deadpan delivery, A nasty one-liner, or the beautiful art of the Pun, you're earning your chops by mastering the various forms of humor.
*Anecdotal Anecdotes
3rd-level College of Jest
Whenever you've successfully landed a killer joke via Vicious Mockery or Tasha's Hideous Laughter, you may spend a use of your bardic inspiration to become a non-combatant to the affected creature. The creature(s) sympathizes with you and doesn't want to cause you harm. It cannot target you with any spells, attacks, or abilities (area of effect spells such as fireball or a dragons breath weapon can still hit you). This effect is broken if you do damage to the creature or force it to make a saving throw or ability check. Does not work on creatures with Legendary Resistances.
*Deadpan-ic
5th-level College of Jest
Through the use of a monotone voice and chill attitude, you're able to calm everyone and point out the absurdity of a situation. You are able to cast calm emotions by using one of your bardic inspiration die. The recipient may receive temporary hit points equal to the bardic die rolled.
*Getting in Character
3rd-level College of Jest
You can spend one hit die to cast disguise self as you slip into your character
*Isn't it Ironic?
10th-level College of Jest
Oh, Irony, how misunderstood you are! But isn't misunderstanding Irony ... ironic? Through the mastery of Irony you're able to confuse an opponent. Using one of your bardic inspiration die, the creature must make a saving throw vs. your spell save DC plus the roll of your bardic die (if your spell save DC is 16 and you roll a 6 on your bardic die, then the new DC is 22). If it fails this check then you are able to confuse the creature to such a degree it questions everything it has ever known about what Irony is! The creature is under the effect of the confusion spell.
*Practical Joke
7th-level College of Jest
You've done it. You've made such an elaborate prank on a creature that they just want to run away and never be seen again. They are so embarrassed that they have banished themselves from this very plane of existence. If you have already successfully affected a creature with Vicious Mockery or Hideous laughter, then you may expend one use of your bardic inspiration die to cast the Banish spell on that creature.
*Self-Deprecating Humor
3rd-level College of Jest
Your humor has a way of endearing yourself to even the most fickle of foes. If you've cast Vicious Mockery this turn, your enemies are too busy rolling their eyes to notice you've left. You may use your reaction to move up to your speed without suffering any opportunities of attack.
*Silly Slapstick
5th-level College of Jest
You excel at not only jokey jokes, but physical comedy too! You may use 15' of your movement to perform a clumsy fall, trip, or slip. Each creature of your choice within 30' of you each realize that the ground is slippery or treacherous in some manner. The target(s) must make a wisdom saving throw vs. your spell save DC to see if they can determine that you're a ridiculous git. If they fail the save, then their movement speed is reduced by 50% as they wonder what conditions are making you slip all over the place. If they succeed the check, you've fallen on your ass for nothing. They resume their normal speed if you move more than half your speed in a turn.
*That stung!
5th-level College of Jest
You may add your spellcasting modifier to the damage of Vicious Mockery.
*The Killing Closer
11th-level College of Jest
It's time for that callback that will close the show. Using one of your bardic inspirations and your reaction, target creature makes a charisma saving throw against your spell save DC or takes 3X a roll of your bardic die damage, where X is the number of times Vicious Mockery has damaged the creature. For example, if your bardic die is a D8, and you've affected them with vicious mockery 3 times, you would roll 9d8 psychic damage.
*The Mighty Pun
11th-level College of Jest
When you successfully land a Vicious Mockery, you may use your reaction to force the target make a constitution saving throw or take 1 point of exhaustion using the One D&D rules (-1 to attacks, ability checks, and saving throws).
*The Observational Quip
3rd-level College of Jest
You excel at pointing out when things are extraordinary, or ridiculous. Due to this skill you've trained you are able to point out these oddities with ease. When a creature makes an insight or perception check, you can expend a Bardic inspiration die to make a pointed comment subtly on what they're looking at, drawing focus to interesting and out of place subjects. Roll on your bardic inspiration die and increase the roll by that result + your proficiency
*The One-Liner
5th-level College of Jest
Your ability to tell a great joke in the right situation is the stuff of legends! Your jokes are so memorable that the recipient can't let it go. Whenever you cast Tasha's Hideous Laughter, you can do so without concentrating on the spell as long as you stay within 15' of the creature. The joke was just THAT good!
Lost in Translation
Level 3 College of Jest Feature
A joke that works well at home can bomb on the road. You and up to your Charisma modifier number of allies speak in a language that appears to be gibberish to an outsider. Or ibberish-jay... You must finish a long rest to use this feature again, or use a bardic inspiration die.
The Mockery is so Vicious!
6th-level College of Jest feature
You are a master at pointing out your enemies insecurities. When you cast the Vicious Mockery cantrip, you can target one extra creature per die rolled. If you are 5th level, for example, you may target two different creatures for 2d4 damage each, 11th level 3 creatures for 3d4 each, and so on.
Yes, And...
14th-level College of Jest feature
Improvisational comedy builds on the contributions of an entire cast to make a scene hilarious. Whenever an ally fails a saving throw you may use your reaction by spending a use of your bardic inspiration and add the result to the roll, potentially turning a fail into a save. Additionally, another ally can build on this improvisation by using their reaction to add another die of similar power to the attempt. Each person must be within 30' of the affected ally for this to work.
