Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

Fighters who fulfill the archetype of the dark rival heighten their strength with feelings of valor, hatred, or another personal ambition. Many focus these emotions on a particular person who they envy or who has hurt them. Most have been on the losing side their whole lives. With unwavering willpower, you crawled to the top.

In times of conflict and competition, when attacked or challenged, the dark rival's physical prowess surges into deadly excellence. Dark rivals exemplify visions of the fierce underdog, who from shadows of past defeat, finds victory through grit, sweat, and blood.

Peerless Rivalry

3rd-level Dark Rival feature

Your painful chase to victory has won you peerless skill in combat.

Rivalry Dice. You have three special dice called Rivalry Dice, which are d8s. A Rivalry Die is expended when you use it.

Your Rivalry Dice increase in size at 10th level (d10s) and at 18th level (d12s).

Regain. You regain one expended Rivalry Die whenever you expend a use of your Second Wind, Action Surge, or Indomitable features, and you regain all expended Rivalry Dice after finishing a Short Rest or Long rest. Roll it and set it aside for later, recording the result.

Reroll. You can reroll one or more of your unspent Rivalry Dice whenever you take damage, fail a Saving Throw, or when you finish a Short Rest or Long Rest. Roll it and set it aside for later, recording the result.

Revenge. When you deal damage to a creature with a Weapon Attack, you can spend and roll one Rivalry Die to deal additional damage equal to the number rolled.

Conquest

3rd-level Dark Rival feature

Your fevered tenacity makes you a difficult person to defeat, both in competition and in combat. When you make a Skill Check or expend a use of your Second Wind feature, you can treat any roll of 9 or lower as a 10. You can do so a number of times equal to your Proficiency bonus, and can't do so again until you finish a long rest.

Unrelenting

7th-level Dark Rival feature

You refuse to drop, even when bruised and bloodied. You gain the ability to use your Rivalry Dice in the following way.

Revive. When you are reduced to 0 Hit Points but not killed outright, you can roll any number of your unspent and expended Rivalry Dice. You expend any unspent Rivalry Dice you choose to roll. You regain a number of Hit Points equal to the result + your Fighter level. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a Long Rest.

Improved Rivalry Dice

10th-level Dark Rival feature

The size of your Rivalry Dice increases to d10s. In addition, when you reroll a Rivalry Dice, you can choose to keep the new roll or the previous one.

Bitter Shade

15th-level Dark Rival feature

Your spirit dominates your foes. Once per turn, when you use a Rivalry Die to deal additional damage, you can immediately make one additional attack against the target. On a hit, you can choose one of the following effects:

Fumbled. The target can't willingly move more than 30 feet away from you until the end of your next turn.

Panicked. The target can't willingly move within 30 feet of you until the end of your next turn.

Improved Rivalry Dice
