Base Class: Barbarian
Known as heralds of the horde, Raiders are first to approach towns and travelers alike. Atop their ferocious creatures with tribe in tow, they can rally entire armies, or rout whole cities from the fear of these harbingers of doom.
It takes a strong arm and a sturdy mind to yield predators renowned for their savagery. One must venture deep into perilous landscapes to confront whatever lurks within such treacherous domains. Relying solely on Rage to fortify primal kinship will surely show how quick one can be humbled. Know that faltering wills compel loyalties to change.
Primal Bond
Staring when you choose this path at 3rd level, you can create an unflinching bond with your mount. This bond bends the will of a creature to your command after you’ve proven yourself through a primal ritual.
With 8 hours of work and the expenditure of 50 gp worth of rare herbs and fine food per CR rating of the chosen creature, you begin to call forth a mount from the wilderness to serve as your ally in battle. Your mount must be at least one size larger than you and of a CR no more than 1/4 your level in this class.
Some creatures are not often tamed by a master's hand. For such creatures, the bonding ritual requires Animal Handling checks to be made every hour with a minimum DC equaling 10+CR of the creature you're attempting tame. The creature requires taming successes that equal a total of 10×CR of the creature; this is a prerequisite to completing the bonding ritual within the allotted time restriction for taming the mount, otherwise the creature may break the ritual. Once the ritual process is complete, the creature will be compelled to offer you a Token of Submission. Without this Token, the Primal Bond may gradually fade, regressing back to its feral instincts and yearning for its return to the wilderness.
- Your mount loses the Multiattack action, if it has one.
- The creature’s initiative changes to match yours and takes it's turn on the same as yours as long as you’re mounting it. Moving as you direct it, the only three actions your mount can take are Dash, Dodge or Disengage.
- When not mounted, your mount can grant you the Assist action with Strength ability checks while within 10 feet.
- You can mount or dismount your creature costing you only 10 feet of movement, rather than half your speed.
Unrivaled Alpha
Beginning at 3rd level the displayed mastery over your mount is clearly shown, earning the right to ride faithful beasts or ferocious monstrosities into battle.
Choose one of the two Paths available.
One with the Beast
The combined force of you and your mount in combat is unmatched. Your beast utilizes its ferocious instincts in tandem with your Rage, following its master ruthlessly and faithfully into combat.
- Your mount now benefits from the effects of Rage gaining resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage whenever you are Raging. In addition, your mount increases its AC and damage rolls by your Rage Damage bonus for the Rage’s duration.
- Your mount uses your proficiency bonus in place of its own and becomes proficient with all saving throws while you are within sight of it.
- If your animal companion is ever slain, the mystical bond you share allows you to return it to life. With 8 hours of work and the expenditure of 25 gp per CR rating worth of rare herbs and fine food, you call forth your mount’s spirit and use your bond to create a new body for it. You must use your Token of Submission from the Primal Bond to coerce the beast’s spirit to return, otherwise it fails.
Monstrous Master
Creatures that strike fear in many are who you seek out as your ally in combat. It is dangerous to tame these monstrosities, as they offer no chance of yielding to weak or unworthy masters.
- You can now use your Primal Bond with Monstrosities following the CR restrictions.
- Any Spellcasting or Recharge abilities your monstrosity has access to are severely stifled while you’re wielding the Token of Submission and cannot be used while mounted. If the creature has access to one, a Spell can be prepared at the beginning of the day from your mount's Spell list. Spells and Recharge abilities may only be used once per day and are regained at the end of a long rest.
- When making a bond with a monster of Evil alignment, the total ritual and attempt duration take twice as long and costs four times as much per CR rating. Trying to coax naturally evil monsters to become neutral acquaintances is a tedious and expensive process. If the bond fails, the creature becomes hostile to you, and no attempt can be made to bond with the same monstrosity for 24 hours.
Savage Charge
Beginning At 6th level, you storm through countless ranks displaying the skillful bond shared with your mount on the battlefield, merciless in your combined fury.
-
Once per Rage, if you move at least 20 feet towards a target on your mount and make an attack with a melee weapon, you can choose to gain an addition to the attack and damage roll equal to your Animal Handling skill.
Relentless Hunter
Beginning 10th level it has become clear that your mount is a force to be reckoned with unto its own, as fleeing prey offer promise of an easy meal.
- Once per turn, you or your mount can take the Dash action as a Bonus action while you’re Raging.
- Once per Rage, you can use your Bonus action to spur your mount into attacking if the damage is only Bludgeoning, Piercing, or Slashing.
Apex Predators
Beginning at 14th level you can unleash your mount’s formidable wrath as it paves its way through enemy lines, leaving you to cull the cowards left in its wake.
- When Raging, any melee attack with a weapon you make against an enemy that is prone, in 1/2, or 3/4 cover, gains Advantage and takes one additional weapon damage die on a hit.
- While atop your mount and Raging, you can choose to use both your Actions to have the mount use the Multiattack action, cast a Spell, or use it's Recharge ability. The total amount of times you can use this per day is equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once).
