Base Class: Sorcerer
You draw power from an immortal darkness within, it beckons from within trying to make you give in to its pure hatred for all things... living, dead, good or evil. It wants nothing more than for you to give in to the corruption and gain complete control of you so it may be fully unleashed and cause immeasurable damage to any plane of existence it can get its hand on. Your family from generation to generation had this monstrous darkness sealed inside them to keep it from reeking havoc. Unknown why or how but your lineage seems to have an inherent resistance to its sickening willpower and are able to suppress it unless called upon. Strangely this curse offers no special protection from other forms of dark powers such as fiends(most dark creatures don't even have any knowledge of such curses as it is such an anomaly) and instead your "gift" focuses on self preservation and a desire for unmatched strength.
Though you have mixed feelings when tapping into the dark powers as you're not quite sure what could happen, you often find yourself calling upon it in times of need due to the shear amount of will it imposes on your mind, its own desire to be unleashed, and your own deep down desire for power to protect those closest to you. You often find yourself sitting in solitude in complete darkness without even noticing the lack of light. This is when the darkness within is strongest and makes you feel at home.
This need for dark solitude can often lead to a misreading of character by others because truly within the dark sorcerer wants to control these powers for good and use its power as much as it can without losing control. This desire to control the power can often put the sorcerer in compromising positions as they try to stretch and push their limits of wielding it.
Snuff
At 1st level, you gain the ability to dim or snuff out lights within sight. As an action, you can magically extinguish or dim any light within sight range. You also learn the Chill Touch cantrip. It does not count against your number of cantrips known.
Burden of Darkness
As a bonus action, you magically surround yourself in whirling darkness, as your eyes go to black. For 1 minute, you gain the following benefits:
• You permeate complete non magical darkness in a 30-foot radius and snuff any light within that radius
• Any creature takes necrotic damage equal to your Charisma modifier if it hits you with a melee attack from within 5 feet of you or if it touches you.
• Whenever you roll necrotic damage on your turn, the roll gains a bonus equal to your Charisma modifier.
You have two charges of this feature, regaining them after finishing a long rest. At 6th, 14th, & 18th gain an additional use per long rest.
Dark Vestige
Starting at 6th level, the racking darkness within you grows restless and vengeful. In the face of defeat, it grows hungry and to remain and surges within to protect its host.
If you are reduced to 0 hit points, you can use your reaction to draw on the dark corruption within. You are instead reduced to 1 hit point, and each creature within 10 feet of you takes necrotic damage equal to half your sorcerer level + your Charisma modifier.
If you use this feature while under the effects of your Burden of Darkness, this feature instead deals necrotic damage equal to your sorcerer level + double your Charisma modifier, and your Burden of Darkness immediately ends.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
Satiating the Darkness
Starting at 14th level, your necrotic spells feed the dark hunger within. When you cast a spell that includes a necrotic damage roll, you regain hit points equal to the slot’s level + your Charisma modifier.
Darkness Incarnate
At 18th level, you have gained the respect of the dark power within and have now learned to work along side it. While under the effect of your Burden of Darkness feature, you gain additional benefits:
• You have a flying speed of 40 feet and can hover.
• You have resistance to all damage.
• If you use your Dark Vestige, that feature deals an extra 20 Necrotic damage to each creature.
