Base Class: Barbarian
Barbarians who follow the Path of the Beastmaster are warriors who have learned to channel their rage into a bond with the wild creatures of the world. They see themselves as protectors of the wilderness and its inhabitants, using their power to defend their charges from harm.
Animal Companion
When you choose this subclass at 3rd level, you gain the ability to bond with an animal companion. Choose a beast that is no larger than Medium and that has a challenge rating of ¼ or lower (you can find a list of suitable animals in the Monster Manual). The animal companion has its own initiative and actions, but you must tell it what to do. Your animal companion gains a variety of benefits while it is linked to you:
- The animal companion gains temporary hit points equal to your level + your Constitution modifier whenever you rage.
- The animal companion adds your proficiency bonus to its AC, attack rolls, and damage rolls.
- The animal companion can move as part of your movement on your turn.
- The animal companion takes the Dodge action on your turn if you do not command it to do anything else.
- Whenever you level up, your animal companions hit points increase by 1d4 + its Constitution modifier.
- Whenever you gain an ability score improvement by leveling up, your animal companion also gains a +2 to one skill or a +1 to two skills.
Bestial Fury
At 6th level, you can extend your rage to your animal companion. While you are raging, your animal companion gains advantage on attack rolls and cannot be frightened or charmed.
Pack Tactics
At 10th level, you and your animal companion are more effective when fighting together. Whenever you and your animal companion are within 10 feet of the same target, you both gain advantage on attack rolls against that target.
Wild Shape
At 14th level, you gain the ability to transform into a beast for a short period of time. Once per long rest, you can use this ability to transform into a beast of your choice for 1 minute. While in this form, you gain the following benefits:
- You gain temporary hit points equal to your level + you Constitution modifier.
- You gain the movement and natural weapons of the chosen beast (such as claws, bite, etc.).
- You retain your Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores, but your Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution scores become those of the chosen beast.
