Base Class: Cleric
What is Madness? If not a gift to see the unseen?
SOON, The Old Ones will return to these realms and planes, ushering in a new age. Cast away your frail sanity and behold the truths I have borne witness to. Come and join me in serving our new gods.
-Melech, the first apostle.
The Madness Domain is a Domain for the Cleric which focuses on debuffs, damage and a theme of insanity plaguing the mind whose subjected to such things.
Madness Domain Spells
You gain access to a set of Domain Spells for your subclass. The Madness Domain Spell is as follows:
1st - arms of hadar, dissonant whispers
3rd - crown of madness, phantasmal force
5th - fear, hunger of hadar
7th - confusion, evards black tentacles
9th - contact other plane, dream
Insanity
Insanity - When a creature which you can see, or that can see you, fails a saving throw on one of your spells, it gains a stack of Insanity.
A creature afflicted by insanity can reduce the number of stacks they have by two if a Remove Curse spell is cast on them. If they have greater restoration cast on them it removes Insanity altogether.
For each stack of insanity, the creature suffers from the following effects:
1 - The creature receives a -1 to hit and -2 damage (minimum of 1 damage dealt)
2 - The creature received an additional -2 to hit and -2 to damage dealt (to a minimum of 1 damage dealt)
3 - The creature’s movement speed is halved and they have disadvantage on dexterity saving throws as their vision begins to warp and they lose touch with their sense of reality.
4 - The blurring intensifies, the creature's reactions slow down, their body is more focused on fighting off the alien attack. They get disadvantage to all saving throws and disadvantage on attacks.
5 - Movement speed becomes zero and they suffer from the restrained effect due to hallucinations and can only break free from the restrained effect if they succeed a intelligence saving throw versus your spell save DC. While the spell save DC lets them break free from the restrained effect, the insanity counter will remain at this level unless remove curse is applied, as stated before.
6 - Finally, Insanity has overcome them, they have gone insane entirely and lose all sense of rationale. They suffer your cleric level d8 psychic damage upon reaching this stage.
Maddening Whispers
When you choose this domain at 1st level, you learn the message cantrip. It counts as a cleric cantrip for you, but it doesn't count against your number of cantrips known. When you cast message, you can choose to convey a series of eldritch/maddening phrases to the target. If you choose to do so, the creature must succeed on an intelligence saving throw or take 1d8 psychic damage. This damage increases when you reach certain levels in this class, increasing to 2d8 at 5th level, 3d8 at 11th level, and 4d8 at 17th level.
Ascendant Shape
The unfathomable deity which you serve has mutated your mind and body to better serve their needs (what form this mutation takes on is up to personal flavor), granting you the ability to telepathically communicate to creatures you see within 60ft. They do not need to understand a language to understand your telepathy, however they are unable to respond via the same telepathy. Additionally, your mutated body makes you resistant to one type of damage of your choice.
Ascendant Shape (Acid)
Your mutated body has specifically developed an acid resistance.
Ascendant Shape (Cold)
Your mutated body is part ice, you've gained resistance to cold damage.
Ascendant Shape (Fire)
Your mutated body has burn marks and has given you resistance to fire damage.
Ascendant Shape (Force)
Your mutated body has been gifted by your deity, granted you an otherworldly resistance to force damage.
Ascendant Shape (Lightning)
Your mutated body has given you resistance to lightning damage.
Ascendant Shape (Necrotic)
Your mutated body suffered near death, you gain resistance to necrotic damage.
Ascendant Shape (Poison)
Your mutated body has a immense natural immunity system, granting you resistance to poison.
Ascendant Shape (Psychic)
Your mutated body grants you psychic resistance by reinforcing your mental capacities.
Ascendant Shape (Radiant)
Your mutated body gifted to you was developed in darkness. It grants you resistance to radiant damage.
Ascendant Shape (Thunder)
Your mutated body is able to block out higher frequency noises. You gain resistance to thunder damage.
Channel Divinity: Synaptic Overlord
Starting at 2nd level, you can use your Channel Divinity to overwhelm the synapses and minds of those in your presence.
As an action you present the holy symbol and invoke the name of your deity. Each creature within 10ft of you that can hear you must succeed on an Intelligence saving throw or become incapacitated until the end of it's next turn.
Hysteria
At 6th level, your strange otherworldly magic incites fear in the minds of your enemies. When a hostile creature fails a saving throw against your channel divinity or a cleric spell of 1st-level or higher that you cast, it becomes frightened until the end of it's next turn. (You will have to program this yourself, as I am unable to in ddb).
You can use this ability a number of times equal to 1 + your wisdom modifier (minimum of 1 use) before requiring a long rest to replenish the uses.
Potent Spellcasting
Starting at 8th level, you add your wisdom modifier to the damage you deal with any cleric cantrip.
Gift of Eyes
At 17th level, your deity bestows upon you many eyes to show you the world as it truly is. You can see in all directions, and you are always under the effect of a true seeing spell. It causes you to be immune to surprise and you also gain advantage on initiative checks.
However, as a result of the many eyes gifted to you, any and all (excluding yourself) creatures within a 10ft radius of you, must succeed on a intelligence saving throw, or suffer the effects of the confusion spell. (No concentration required)
You may use a bonus action to open or close the Gift of Eyes. If the Gift of Eyes is open, you gain the effects as stated, however if you choose to close them, you lose said effects.
