Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

Inspired by Pataphysics in the SCP Foundation canon. I wanted the idea of a bit of a meta role in a dnd campaign, as it is all a story for all intents and purposes, just an interactive one.

A Narrative Wizard is focused more on the nature of the universe and the pursuit of greater control over your own destiny. Typically, Narrative Wizards are spawned from events that just cannot be explained by anything other than a greater power, fate, or another controlling force, leading people to contemplate the world around them and the way it is structured - eventually, they begin pulling at the strings themselves, and out comes a Narrative Wizard.

Editor

At 2nd level, you have learnt how to minorly influence narrative properties to the extent that you can alter minor events. As an action, you can alter the history of an object that is small or tiny – this alteration can be one of the following things:

  • Visual: As a bonus action, you change a part of a small or tiny object’s appearance. This cannot change the overall structural integrity of the object or change the object such that it is unrecognisable from its original state. When you do this, NPCs and players with no levels in Narrative Wizard do not recall the original appearance of the item and act as if it was always in its new state. Visual alterations can only be made in ways that make sense to a narrative; a dramatic change in the style of a character’s clothing, for example, would not be possible, as it is outside of the established themes laid down for that character. This can be done a number of times equal to your intelligence modifier + your proficiency bonus per long rest. An example of this use of the Editor feature would be having the colours of a characters clothes changed, or a different brand of item being used somewhere.
  • Positional: As an action, you alter where a small or tiny object is positioned/oriented. The new position/orientation must make sense for the context of its original position/orientation. When moving an object 5ft., you must make a DC 10 arcana or insight check, with the DC increasing by 1 for every additional 5ft. This can be done a number of times equal to your intelligence modifier per long rest. An example of this use of the Editor feature would be having a mug be placed on a different table that it was originally placed on, or having a sword be mounted on a different wall.

Meta Awareness

At 2nd level, you are capable of perceiving the narrative links between the things in your world. You add your intelligence modifier to Insight, Investigation, Perception, and History checks.

Rewrite

At 6th level, your control over the story has improved, allowing you to control the context of a situation. As a reaction that you take when a creature makes any roll, excluding percentile dice rolls, you can force that creature to make a wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. Upon a failure, the creature rerolls whatever dice roll it originally made. When you use this feature, roll 1d20. If the roll equals the number of times you have used this feature in one day, you roll on the Narrative Repercussion table, and the DM determines when the result occurs.

Deus Ex Machina

At 10th level, you are capable of controlling aspects of your own destiny. Three times per day, you can change any single roll made by the Dungeon Master. You do not learn the consequences of this action until whatever results occur.

Writer

At 14th level, your ability to manipulate reality has developed such that you can masterfully rewrite the story. You gain the following benefits:

  • When you roll on the Narrative Repercussion table, you roll twice and choose one of the results.
  • When making a Positional alteration with the Editor feature, you can move objects of medium size, and the DC for movement over 5ft. increases by 1 for every 10ft. of additional movement.
  • With 8 hours of work, you can cast the Wish spell. Once you do so, you cannot cast it again with this feature for the next 7 days. Doing this during a long rest means you do not gain the benefits of the rest.
