Base Class: Ranger
A Beast Tamer has devoted their life to the creatures of the wild. From the smallest rodent to the fiercest dragon, all creatures intrigue a tamer. They spend so much time studying creatures that they feel more at home in a forest or cave, than in any town or city.
Spirit Companion
You gain a spirit companion that accompanies you on your adventures and is trained to fight alongside you. Like any creature, it can spend Hit Dice during a short rest to regain hit points.
The spirit obeys your commands as best as it can. It takes its turn on your initiative. On your turn, you can verbally command the spirit using your bonus action. If you don't issue a command, the spirit takes the Dodge action. Once you have the Extra Attack feature, you can make one weapon attack yourself when you command the spirit to take the Attack action.
If you are incapacitated or absent, the spirit acts on its own, focusing on protecting you and itself. The spirit never requires your command to use its reaction, such as when making an opportunity attack.
If the spirit dies, it reappears by your side when you finish a short rest.
The spirit can have one of four roles:
- defender
- attacker
- support
- steed.
Until you reach level 15, you cannot have two of the same types at once.
After you do:
- if you have two Attackers, you can have each one of them make an attack but you forfeit your own attack.
- you cannot have two Support spirits
The Spirits can switch their type when you finish a long rest.
The Spirits take any shape you want without changing their statistics (just don't go too crazy lol).
On your turn, you can forgo your attack to have the Attacker Spirit make the attack and also you can have your Spellcaster Spirit cast a spell at the same time.
When you get the Multiattack feature, you make one of the attacks and the second one originates from your Attacker Spirit.
When you have two Attacker Spirits, both of the attacks can originate from them, one from each.
You gain a number of spirits as shown on the Spirit Companion table below:

Spirit Shape
You can try to tame any Beast, Elemental, Dragon, Fiend, Plant, Celestial, or Fey. you encounter. Make an animal handling check, against a DC the CR of a creature (min 1) + its Attitude modifier (indicated bellow). On a successful check, you have tamed the beast. Tamed beasts are friendly towards you and your allies and are loyal to you. Has to have an intelligence of 2 or higher.
Aggressive = 22
Defensive = 18
Indifferent = 14
Friendly = 11
You can only perform a check on a creature to lower or its attitude once per hour. If you fail you have to wait an hour to try again. In this way, to calm a creature from Aggressive or Defensive to Tamed, it would take 3 successful checks over 2 hours.
You can learn as many shapes of spirits as you want but they do not alter their statistics.
Exceptional Training
When you're hit with an attack, you can use your reaction number of times equal to 2 + your proficiency bonus to swap places with one of your spirits within 10ft. of you and have it take the attack instead.
Spiritual Recovery
Your spirits now regain all missing hitpoints when you take a short rest.
Spirit Tactics
Your spirits now gain the Pack Tactics ability.
(When an ally is withing 5ft. of the target of the attack, the spirits make the attack with advantage)
