Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

All fighters know the basics of how to kill and how to stay alive. Harvesters enhance this knowledge to an extreme degree, becoming puppet masters on the strings of death. They are highly valued as assassins and bounty hunters.

Because of their connection to death and necromancy, many Harvesters are shunned by society, leading them to become quiet and distant from would-be companions. Harvesters may work under Liches and powerful spellcasters, further perfecting their craft by learning the inner workings of oblivion. The nature of their work causes many Harvesters to eventually forget their mortality, becoming nothing but mindless killing machines.

How did your character become a Harvester? Were you surrounded by death at a young age, awakened by the power of the passing souls? Or did you cultivate your abilities with others dedicated to the art of death?

Death Scythe

Starting at 3rd level, you can manifest a scythe to cut down your enemies. You can perform a one-hour ceremony to create one. This ceremony can be performed during a short or long rest. Only one can exist at a time, and creating a new one destroys the old one. The scythe is a martial melee weapon that you are proficient in with the heavy, two-handed, and reach properties. On a hit, it deals slashing damage equal to 2d4 plus your strength modifier. You can use a bonus action to instantly teleport the scythe to your hand. If the scythe is on a different plane of existence than you, this fails.

Reap Soul

Also at 3rd level, you gain the ability to consume part of the souls of those you slay. As a reaction that you take when a creature is killed by your scythe, you gain 1 soul.

You can hold a maximum number of these souls equal to your proficiency bonus, and you can't gain one while at your maximum.

You can use these souls in a number of ways, gaining more as you level up.

  • While you have at least 1 soul consumed, you have advantage on death saving throws.
  •  When you hit a creature with your scythe, you can expend souls to empower your attack. For every soul expended, the attack does an additional 2d4 necrotic damage. This increases to 2d6 damage at level 7, 2d8 damage at level 10, 2d10 damage at level 15, and 2d12 damage at level 18.
  • You can expend a soul to cast false life on yourself, requiring no material components, as the energy from the soul strengthens your body. For every additional soul expended, the level of false life increases by 1.

Dark Soul

At 7th level, your soul blackens, changing your body.

You gain resistance to necrotic damage. You also no longer require food, water, or sleep.

Empowered Scythe

Also at 7th level, your scythe gains power from the souls it has collected, granting it the following benefits:

  • Your attacks with the scythe count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.
  • You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with the scythe. At 10th level, this bonus increases to +2, and at 15th level, this bonus increases to +3.

Grasp On Life

At 10th level, you gain the ability to avoid your own death. When you are reduced to 0 hit points, you can use your reaction to instead drop to 1 hit point and teleport up to 30 feet away to an unoccupied space that you can see.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest, unless you expend a soul to use it again.

Bend Soul

At 15th level, your power over souls is so great that you can bend and empower your soul for your benefit. Whenever you use your Second Wind feature, you also gain 1 soul along with the usual benefits.

God Of Death

At 18th level, you gain the pinnacle of mortal control over life and death. You gain the following benefits:

  • You gain immunity to necrotic damage.
  • You can expend 2 souls to cast Revivify, Speak with Dead, or Spirit Shroud, requiring no material components. The damage done by Spirit Shroud is Necrotic. Once you use one of these spells, you can't use any of these spells until you finish a short or long rest.
