Spirit Spear V4

Strong hunters often adorn their favorite weapons with trophies from the most powerful foes they have felled in battle. Spirit Spears are able to capture a bit of their fallen foes' power in these trophies to empower their own strikes.

In Protoria, Goliath hunters are the prototypical Spirit Spears. The strongest hunters seek to distinguish themselves by bringing down fearsome beasts in single combat. The warriors will spend long weeks in solitude on the hunt and return with a token of their kill or not at all. The warriors that succeed in this trial learn to contain and harness power from the spirits of the foes they slay and become tribal leaders and fearsome warriors in their own right.

Spirit Weapon

Beginning when you choose this archetype at 3rd level, choose a melee weapon to adorn with trophies from enemies you helped bring down. These trophies are your spirit tokens and they lend some of the creatures' power to your strikes.

You can link up to three trophies that must come from three different creatures to this weapon. The strength of these creatures imbues the weapon giving a bonus to damage rolls when weilded by you based on the CR of the creatures. To determine the bonus to damage rolls, add the CR of the three creatures together then divide by 6 and round up to the nearest whole number.

When you choose this subclass you get three trophies from CR 1 creatures, for example feathers of Giant Eagles, giving you a +1 bonus to damage rolls with the chosen weapon. You can attempt to harvest new trophies from creatures of types: Aberration, Beast, Monstrosity, Fiend, Dragon, Giant, Humanoid and Goblinoid. If the creature was slain within the past 10 minutes and you dealt damage to it, you can make a special Survival check as an action to harvest a new spirit token. The DC for this check is 10+ the creature’s CR. If you succeed on this check you gain a spirit token from the creature and you can immediately apply it to your chosen weapon by replacing a current token. If you fail this check the fallen creature's spirit eludes you and you cannot gain a spirit token from this creature.

You can only have one weapon adorned with spirit tokens. No one but you can remove or tamper with the tokens, however if the weapon is lost or stolen your spirit tokens are lost with it, and you must choose a new weapon and harvest new spirit tokens to adorn it. 

Superior Survival

Starting at 7th level, you gain survival instincts from the spirits of your fallen foes. You gain proficiency in the Survival skill. If you are already proficient in this skill you instead gain expertise and can double your proficiency bonus when using this skill.

Additionally, attacks with your spirit weapon now count as magical for overcoming resistances. 

Helpful Spirits

Starting at 10th level, the fallen spirits you have captured in your spirit tokens begin to respect you and grant you additional aid. When you use your Action Surge feature to take the attack action with your Spirit Weapon on your turn you can make one additional attack with this weapon.

When you take this attack you gain temporary hit points equal to your level in this class

Guardian Spirits

At 15th level, the powerful spirits you have conquered are shielding you from blows. You can cast the Shield of Faith spell a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier per Long Rest.

Spiritual Smite

At 18th level, you can unleash the power of the spirits contained in your Spirit Weapon to smite your foes. When you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack using your Spirit Weapon, you can choose to deal an additional 8d8 damage. You can choose the type of damage dealt based on the creature's spirits you have trapped in your weapon.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom Modifier per Long Rest.
