Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

To many Barbarians, their homes are the great steppes: large temperate grasslands, hills, and plains.  The Mongol Empire of Genghis Khan was the most powerful of these groups, conquering such a large area that they become the largest contiguous empire in history.  Unlike the frenzied berserkers of the Norse, the Mongols fought much on horseback, their mounts being a key part of their daily life. Such people inspired many fictional groups, such as the Dothraki from A Song of Ice and Fire, and the fictional idea of a group of barbaric horseman firing arrows and attacking with spears and long curved blades has been a part of fantasy for many years.

The Path of the Nomad continues this tradition.  Riding atop bonded steeds, those on the Path of the Nomad are powerful archers in light armor, tapping into their ferocity in a unique way.  Barbarians on this path are mobile and and aggressive, focusing less on absorbing damage for their allies.

The Steppe's Fury

Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, your rage focuses your skill and horsemanship.  When you give yourself over to your instincts, you are able to strike down foes at range and control your mount with undue skill.  While you are raging, you may add your rage damage bonus to attacks made with a sling, longbow, or shortbow, and your mount gains the benefit of your rage’s damage resistance.  You may not use this feature unless you are unarmored or wearing light armor.

Rider's Bond

Starting at 6th level, you develop a powerful bond with your mount.  By performing a one hour ceremony with a Riding Horse, Pony, Mastiff, Camel, or Elk you create an unshakable bond with the creature.  You add your proficiency bonus to the creature’s AC, attack rolls, damage rolls, and any skills or saving throws it is proficient in. Its hit point maximum is either the number in its stat block or four times your Barbarian level, whichever is higher.  Like any creature, it can spend Hit Dice during a short rest to regain hit points. The mount also benefits from your Fast Movement class feature from the Barbarian Class as long as it is bonded to you. Your mount loses all of these features if it wears medium or heavy armor.

The mount obeys your commands as best as it can. It takes its turn on your initiative. On your turn, you can verbally command the mount where to move (no action required by you). You can use your action to verbally command it to take the Attack, Dash, Disengage, or Help action. If you don't issue a command, the mount takes the Dodge action. Once you have the Extra Attack feature, you can make one weapon attack yourself when you command the mount to take the Attack action.  If you are not mounted on the creature you cannot use this part of the feature, and your mount takes the dodge action or runs from the battle at the DM’s discretion.

You cannot have more than one bonded creature at a time.  If you perform this ceremony with a new mount, the old mount is released from your service and will depart, becoming unwilling to be ridden or mounted again.

While you are within five miles of your mount, you can let out a loud whistle, and the mount will come towards you if possible until it arrives.

Peerless Archery

Starting at 10th level, you can apply your Brutal Critical feature to attacks made with a Sling, Shortbow, or Longbow.

Additionally, you may spend a bonus action on your turn to grant any attacks you make with a Sling, Shortbow, or Longbow deal an additional 1d6 damage for the remainder of the turn.  You may use this feature a number of times equal to your Dexterity Modifier. You regain all of these uses on a short rest.

Fight as One

At 14th level, you and your mount act as one.  As a bonus action, you may command your bound mount to attack an opponent it can reach.  It may add your rage bonus to its attack rolls. Additionally, your mount gains the benefit of the Unarmored Defense feature.  After this attack your mount may move 10 feet in any direction, gaining the benefit of the Disengage action for both of you.

Additionally, your bound mount gains advantage on any saving throw against an effect would Charm or Frighten it.
