Base Class: Wizard

The practice of necrophagy is similar to that of necromancy, but with a far more horrific flavor. Necrophages, sometimes called death eaters, consume the flesh of the recently deceased to steal those creature's knowledge and power. Adherents of this specialty claim that is the origin of all necromancy magic and necrotic energy. They view the Negative Energy Plane as a cosmic necrophage all its own, devouring all matter, energy, and life and replacing it with necrotic energy and undead. Almost all necrophages live on the outskirts of society, as they are hated by those around them.

Necromancy Savant

Beginning when you select this school at 2nd level, the gold and time you must spend to copy a necromancy spell into your spellbook is halved.

Undead Familiar

At 2nd level, you add the find familiar spell to your spellbook if its not already there. When you conjure your familiar, the creature is undead instead of a celestial, fey or fiend. When the familiar is reduced to 0 damage it makes a Constitution saving throw with a DC equal to 5 + the damage taken unless the damage is radiant. On a success, the familiar drops to 1 hit point, instead.

Memory of Flesh

At 6th level, you can use your action to consume a bit of flesh from an undead or a recently slain (within 1 hour) creature with an Intelligence of 6 or higher. An unwilling creature is allowed a DC 14 Constitution saving throw to resist the effect.

If the target is affected, you gain temporary hit points equal to your wizard level, and if the target was proficient in any Intelligence skills, you can pick one of them to gain proficiency in, or double your proficiency bonus with it if you are already proficient. The effect lasts until you finish a long rest.

You can't target the same creature with this feature twice within 24 hours. If you use this feature on another creature, the original effect ends.

Fruit of the Mind

Beginning at 10th level, when you use Memory of Flesh you can gain information from the creature as if you cast speak with dead instead of gaining temporary hit points or a skill proficiency. The creature has disadvantage on its saving throw. As with Memory of Flesh, you can only target the same creature once within 24 hours.

A particular creature can be affected by Fruit of the Mind a number of times equal to its Constitution modifier. Beyond this, you can learn no more information from this creature.

Feed on Life

Starting at 14th level, you gain several benefits after using Memory of Flesh or Fruit of the Mind:

  • You no longer require air, food, drink, or sleep.
  • You gain immunity to disease, poison and necrotic damage, and the poisoned condition
  • You can't suffer a reduction in your hit point maximum.

These benefits last until you finish a long rest.
