Base Class: Wizard
You are a self-taught wizard, no fancy magic school education for you. Perhaps your parents couldn't afford it, perhaps you wouldn't fit in because of some feature of your background, or perhaps you have a more entrepreneurial attitude toward magic. Whatever the case, you had to rely on your own talent, random spellbooks you got a hold of, and what you could glean from traveling magicians. Those around you might've refered to you as a "whiz kid" (pun intended) because of your unique aptitude for picking up magical ideas and concepts on the fly.
Quick Study
2nd level homeschooling feature
You have trained yourself in multiple languages and in magic theory so that you can understand spells on the fly. This talent for grasping magic quickly is represented by quick study points. You have a number of quick study points equal to your wizard level. You regain them when you finish a long rest.
You also gain proficiency with arcana if you're not already and learn two languages of your choice.
Whenever another creature casts a spell on the wizard spell list of a level you have a spell slot for and you can see the somatic & material components and hear & understand the verbal components, you can use your reaction and spend a number of quick study points equal to the spell's level to attempt to learn that spell by making an arcana check (DC = 10 + spell level). On a success, you copy that spell into your spellbook.
Fast Learner
2nd level homeschooling feature
As an action, you can spend a quick study point to become proficient with one tool, instrument, vehicle, or weapon until the end of your next long rest. You can have a number of these proficiencies equal to your intelligence modifier at any one time.
Swift Rebuttal
6th level homeschooling feature
Your ability to recognize magic on the fly grows, empowering your ability to counter it.
Whenever another creature casts a spell that is in your spellbook and you can see the somatic & material components and hear & understand the verbal components, you can use your reaction and spend a number of quick study points equal to that spell's level to attempt to counter that spell by making an arcana check (DC = 14 + spell level). On a success, the creature's spell fails and it has no effect.
Rapid Recall
10th level homeschooling feature
Your acute memory and knack for spellcraft has granted you the ability to prepare your spells more efficiently.
As a bonus action, you can replace one spell you have prepared with another spell from your spellbook. Doing so costs 1 quick study point per level of the spell you are preparing.
Study Break
14th level homeschooling feature
Whenever you take a short rest, you may regain a number of quick study points equal to your intelligence modier.
