Base Class: Monk
Monks who follow the Way of the Psychonaut dedicate themselves to exploring the realms of the divine and unlocking the hidden potentials of the mind. Inspired by the teachings and influence of the god, Sinnombro, the draconic god of Elderon, these monks embark on a spiritual journey that transcends the material plane and delves into the depths of perception and enlightenment.
Psychonaut monks are adept at harnessing the power of hallucinogenic plants and altered states of consciousness to expand their awareness and tap into the mystical energies of the universe. Through disciplined meditation and the consumption of sacred herbs, they seek to unlock their innermost potential and gain profound insights into the nature of reality.
Hit Points and Proficiencies:
A Pschonaut monk has hit points equal to 8 + their Constitution modifier. They have proficiency with simple weapons, shortswords, and choose one type of artisan's tools or one musical instrument. Their saving throw proficiencies are Strength and Dexterity, and they choose two skills from Acrobatics, Athletics, History, Insight, Religion, and Stealth.
Unarmored Defense:
Beginning at 1st level, while wearing no armor and not wielding a shield, a Pschonaut monk's AC equals 10 + their Dexterity modifier + their Wisdom modifier.
Martial Arts:
At 1st level, a Pschonaut monk gains mastery over combat styles that utilize unarmed strikes and monk weapons. They can use Dexterity instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls of their unarmed strikes and monk weapons. They can roll a d4 in place of the normal damage of their unarmed strike or monk weapon. When they use the Attack action with an unarmed strike or monk weapon, they can make one additional unarmed strike as a bonus action.
Ki:
Starting at 2nd level, a Pschonaut monk gains the ability to harness ki, the mystic energy within themselves. They have a number of ki points equal to their monk level, as shown in the Monk table. They can spend ki points to fuel various ki features and regain expended ki points after a short or long rest.
Psychonaut Technique
Third Eye Awakening:
At 3rd level, a Pschonaut monk gains an enhanced connection to their inner sight. They gain the ability to cast the Augury spell as a ritual, and they have expertise for any ability checks they make to perceive secret doors or hidden treasures.
Hallucinogenic Flow:
Also at 3rd level, the Psychonaut monk learns to channel the effects of hallucinogenic substances into their combat prowess. When they take the Attack action on their turn, they can spend 1 ki point to imbue their strikes with hallucinogenic energy. Until the end of their turn, their unarmed strikes deal an additional 1d6 psychic damage
Psychic Shield:
tarting at 6th level, the Psychonaut monk gains the ability to create a psychic shield that protects them from mental intrusions. They have advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened, and they can spend 2 ki points as a bonus action to gain temporary hit points equal to their monk level + their Wisdom modifier.
Mind's Eye Transcendence:
At 11th level, the Psychonaut monk gains the ability to enter a heightened state of consciousness, transcending the limitations of the physical world. As an action, they can spend 5 ki points to enter a meditative state for 1 minute. During this time, they gain the following benefits:
- Their movement speed increases by 20 feet.
- They gain advantage on Dexterity saving throws.
- They can move through other creatures and objects as if they were in difficult terrain. They take 1d10 force damage if they end their turn inside an object.
Once this state ends, the monk gains one level of exhaustion.
Divine Psyche:
At 17th level, the Psychonaut monk's connection to Sinnombro reaches its pinnacle. They become infused with the divine essence of their god, gaining resistance to psychic damage. Additionally, when they use their Hallucinogenic Flow feature, the psychic damage increases to 3d6.
