Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

The spear opens the path to the afterlife, and the butterflies bridge this world and the next. Balance must be maintained, and yet destinies remain variable. Death has its own rules, and yet is still hard to predict. Balance your health and melt your opponents with this fighter archetype inspired by Hu Tao from Genshin Impact.

Guide to Afterlife

You can use your bonus action to expend a Hit Die and take necrotic damage equal to the number rolled to surround yourself with crimson butterflies and enter the Paramita Papilio state.

Paramita Papilio. While you maintain the Paramita Papilio state, your attacks deal additional fire damage equal to your Constitution modifier. This state lasts for a number of rounds equal to your proficiency bonus, or until you are knocked unconscious.

Saving Throws. Some features of this archetype require a creature to make a saving throw. The DC for those features is 8 + your Proficiency Bonus + your Constitution modifier.

Secrets of Wangshen

Charged Attack.
Once per round, when you take the Attack action, you can forgo one attack to make a Charged Attack.

  • Melee. You target a creature up to 10 feet from you to lunge at them and make a melee attack with your weapon. After the attack, you end up 5 feet behind the target. If the space is occupied, you end up 5 feet in front of the target.
  • Ranged. You target a creature and fire an empowered shot in their direction. The recoil from this ranged attack pushes you up to 10 feet away from your target.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus per short or long rest.

Blood Blossom.
While Paramita Papilio is active, successful Charged Attacks leave crimson butterflies to swarm the target, afflicting them with the Blood Blossom effect for up to 1 minute. A creature afflicted by Blood Blossom must make a Constitution saving throw at the start of their turn. On a failed check, they take fire damage equal to your Proficiency Bonus. On a success, the effect ends and they don’t take damage.

Spirit Soother

Once per long rest, you can expend your Second Wind ability to use Spirit Soother. As an action, you command a blazing spirit to attack nearby enemies. All creatures of your choice within 15 feet of you must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, they take 4d8 fire damage, or half as much on a success. You heal 1d10 for each creature you targeted, up to a maximum of 3d10. If you use this feature while your current hit points are equal to or less than half of your maximum hit points, you deal an additional 2d8 (6d8 total) fire damage and gain a bonus to the healing equal to your fighter level.

Sanguine Rouge

While in the Paramita Papilio state, your subclass features ignore fire damage resistance, and treat immunity as if it were resistance. Also, if your current hit points are equal to or less than half of your maximum hit points, your Paramita Papilio damage bonus increases by half of your Proficiency Bonus (rounded down).

Crimson Bouquet

While on the Paramita Papilio state, you can use your Charged Attack as a bonus action, instead of forgoing an attack.

Butterfly's Embrace

When your hit points reach 0, you do not fall as a result of the damage. Instead, you regain 1d10 + your Constitution modifier hit points and gain the following bonuses for one round:

  • You gain resistance to all incoming damage.
  • You deal critical damage on attack rolls of 19 or 20.
  • You are immune to the prone condition and any effect that would move you does not move you.

Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest.
