Base Class: Monk
Like all Haruchai, Monks of the Way of the Haruchai Master are the ultimate masters of martial arts unarmed combat They learn techniques to attack, protect, and, in turn, punish their opponents as well as manipulate Earthpower (ki) to pursue physical perfection, honing their body as a smith sharpens a sword. (Note. This Subclass may seem a bit overpowered but please keep in mind that the Haruchai Masters do not wear armor, carry weapons or use magic and/or magical items).
The Haruchai have always been as intransigent as basalt, but centuries of abhorrent actions against them, against Law, and against Earthpower have hardened their hearts. Their greatest wish is to bereave the land from using any form of Eldritch leverage--including Earthpower. They do not deny Earthpower themselves, but they do not trust anyone else to use it, or any form of Theurgy, without ultimately falling into corruption. Simply, they no longer trust in the goodness of others.
At the heart of the Way of the Harucahi Master lies a compulsion to forestall corruption and injustice. If the world is crushed under the heel of evil and corruption, The Masters will not fault themselves. They will give their utmost and will bear the cost without shame or sorrow, yet if they permit some new injustice when prevention lies within their power, this loss will efface all meaning from their lives. The Master's worth and their purpose, therefore, are measured by the forces arrayed against them, but they are not judged by victory or defeat, life or death. They are valued according to their honor and steadfastness. As a result, all in the Way of the Haruchai Masters are Lawful Good.
They teach about a world without Eldritch power and dedicate themselves to the suppression of all magical knowledge--arcane, divine, and Earthpower. They will caution both rationally and impartially against any and all use of these theurgies. Once that fails, however, The Masters will impose whatever force necessary to oppose those they feel are abusing the use of any magic--even theurgies in the name of good if they believe it will ultimately lead to corruption. Some monks following the Way of the Haruchai Masters have maimed themselves (remove fingers or carve scars) to resemble those they respect or honor. These Masters are known as The Humbled.
Fist Master
At 3rd level, when you choose this tradition, your Martial Arts training has hardened both your body and mind. The Masters never wear armor or use shields. They rely on their abilities and training to protect them. In addition, they refuse to use magic preferring to believe in their own strength.
Due to your rigorous training and harsh living environment, your damage die increases for unarmed strikes. You can roll a d6 in place of the normal damage for your Unarmed Strike (Steel Strike) and Flurry of Blows (Fists of Fury). This die changes to a d8 at 5th level; a d10 at 11th level; and 2d6 at 17th level. This increased damage can be applied to Steel Strike and Fists of Fury. Note. Since D&D Beyond will not allow attack damage to be changed, for this subclass, I've changed "Unarmed Attack" to Steel Strike and "Flurry of Blows" to Fists of Fury. All attacks will appear on the Character Sheet, but only Steel Strike and Fists of Fury will have the improved damage. All rules that apply to "Flurry of Blows" also apply to Fists of Fury.
Ki Master
You use your ki to inflict wounds. When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you can spend 1 ki Point to deal extra Force (Earthpower) damage equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die + your Wisdom modifier. You can use this feature only once per turn.
Master of Body and Judgement
At 6th level, you gain the ability to heal yourself. As an action, you can regain hit points equal to three times your monk level. You may do this each day at dawn.
Earthpower gives you a +1 to your unarmed attacks, if you roll a 19 on an attack roll, you can expend 1 Ki point to change it to a critical hit, and when you hit a creature with an Opportunity Attack, the creature’s Speed becomes 0 for the rest of the turn.
Earth Sense plus your lawful nature allows you to choose one of the following Skills: Insight, Investigation, or Perception. If you lack Proficiency with the chosen Skill, you gain Proficiency in it, and if you have Proficiency in it, you gain Expertise. You can take the Search Action as a Bonus Action.
Master of Justice
Beginning at 11th level Earthpower strengthens your unarmed attacks, and your Earth Sense as well as your battle experience have sharpened your combat senses to extraordinary heights giving you the following benefits.
- Righteous Fists: for the cost of 2 Ki Points, +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls. You can spend 6 Ki Points in this manner, and it lasts for 1 minute.
- Ethical Strike. As a Bonus Action, you can spend 1 Ki Point, and an opponent must make a Constitution Saving Throw or take 2d6 damage and suffer -2 to AC until the end of your next turn. On a successful save, the creature suffers only 1d6 damage.
- Rectitude. As a Reaction, you may choose to spend 1 Ki Point to raise your Armor Class by one. You can spend 2 Ki Points in this manner. This lasts for 1 minute.
- Virtue. You now have Immunity from being frightened.
- Renew. Once per day during a Short Rest, you regain Ki Points equal to your Wisdom Modifier +1.
Master of Fate
At 17th level, your strikes become a force that can vanquish those who will not listen to reason. As an Action, you may spend 5 ki Points to unleash your Devout Persuader attack. If the creature has 50 Hit Points or less, it is knocked unconscious. If the creature has more than 50 Hit Points, it must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the target drops to 0 Hit Points and falls unconscious. On a successful save, the creature loses half of its Hit Points.
If the creature is an agent of Corruption, (evil) you may spend 10 Ki Points to force the creature to make a Constitution saving throw. On a successful save, the creature is knocked unconscious. On a failed saving throw, the creature must begin death saving throws immediately. You may only perform this Ardent strike once per day.
This Monk Subclass is based on Haruchai characters, the Masters, from The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant by Stephen R. Donaldson.
