Monk
Base Class: Monk

You can use Monk hit dice to power certain abilities.

Hit Dice Pool

You have learned to harness your own life essence to power certain features and abilities. Your life essence is represented by your Monk hit dice and your hit point maximum at any given time. You have a number of Monk hit dice equal to your class level and you can recover a number of them equal to one half your class level when you finish a long rest.

Life from Ki

With your attunement to the life essence that flows through all beings, you have learned to convert your potent ki into vital energy. As an action, you can expend a number of Ki points up to your proficiency bonus, converting them into life essence and regaining a number of expended Monk hit dice. The number of Monk hit dice regained is equal to the number of Ki points expended.

Monk State

You have focused on supercharging your monk abilities with your life essence and learned how to push the limits of not only your body, but your mind as well. As a bonus action, you can expend 3 Monk hit dice to enter Monk State until the start of your next turn. At the start of each of your next turns in combat, you can expend 2 more Monk hit dice to extend the duration of Monk State for one more round (no action required).

While in Monk State, the processing speed of your mind increases tenfold and you are able to move and react at otherworldly levels. You gain the following benefits:

  • Your Dexterity score increases by a number equal to one half your Monk level.
  • You can make 1 additional bonus action.
  • Your attacks build momentum. For each consecutive hit you land with an unarmed strike or monk weapon, the target takes an additional 1d6 force damage. The additional force damage can increase to a number of d6’s equal to your proficiency bonus. The momentum damage resets if you miss, or if your turn ends and you haven’t attacked since your last turn.

Combat State

Your control of your body in combat while in Monk State has improved. While in Monk State, you can make 1 additional attack as part of your action.

Soul Strike

The boost you get from your Monk State has granted you the ability to sense and absorb life essence from other creatures. As an action while in Monk State, you can choose one creature within 10 feet of you that you can see and force it to make a Constitution saving throw. The DC for the save is 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier. It takes force damage equal to 2d4 + your Constitution modifier and loses a number of hit dice equal to one half the damage on a failed save, or half as much damage and does not lose any hit dice on a success.

You gain a number of temporary hit points equal to the damage the target takes, and regain a number of expended Monk hit dice equal to the number of hit dice the target loses.

Perfected State

Your control over Monk State has reached its physical peak. You gain the following benefits while in Monk State:

  • The number of additional attacks you can make on your action increases to 2
  • You can make 1 additional reaction
  • If you hit a creature with an attack, you have advantage on the next attack roll you make against the creature on this turn
