Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

A school of magic founded at the Gurgon's college of magic an odd 5000 years ago. Rune crafters specialize in infusing their magic into rune like traps that they place on surfaces or even creatures. Over the years the school has been developed quite thoroughly and can be used with any other school of magic from creating an evocation trap rune or marking soldiers with a delayed healing word before they enter a fight. The Rune Crafters are a must have utility in almost any situation as their cunning and strategic thinking allows them to plan ahead in almost any situation. They prefer to set up traps beforehand and then sit back and watch as their foes blunder into them. Though during a surprise battle they can still rely on their trusty spells and cast them normally or even use their quick thinking to use their runes in creative and effective ways.

Rune Craft

Beginning when you select this school at 2nd level, you can use your action to create a spell rune on any surface you can touch. Doing so still expends the spell slot of the level of the spell casted, however you give the Rune a trigger much like a held action. The spell does not activate until the trigger is met after which the Rune is destroyed. The rune's activation does not use any actions and a Rune last until you take a long rest or use this ability again after which the Rune is destroyed without activating.

You start off only being able to create one rune at a time, but as you level you gain the ability to have more runes active at once. Starting at 7th level you can have up to two runes active at once and starting from 14th level you can have up to three runes active at one time.

If you attempt to create a Rune on an unwilling creature, you must first make a melee weapon attack against their armor class. On a success the Rune functions as normal, but on a fail the Rune falters and the spell slot is lost.

Runic armor

Beginning at 2nd level, you gain the ability to create a defensive rune on your person. You can expend 1 spell slot of any level to, as an action, create a rune on yourself that lasts until the next dawn, when you sustain damage from an attack, you can use your reaction to activate the rune and force the attacker to make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC, taking [roll]1d8[/roll] + your Intelligence Modifier in damage on a fail. The damage type is the same as the type you recieved. Once the rune is used, you must use an action and another spell slot to reapply the rune.

The damage increases to [roll]2d8[/roll] at 6th level and [roll]3d8[/roll] 10th level.

Trigger Trap

Beginning at 6th level, you can manually trigger any Rune that you have set. Using a reaction you can activate any rune you have created that is currently within 60ft of you. Also you can designate a number of creatures up to your intelligence modifier those creature automatically succeed any saving throws they might need to make against one of your activated runes.

Potent Runes

Starting at 10th level, your ability to create runes have improved greatly. Whenever you create a Rune you can have it deal one additional die of damage or healing as well as one additional die per up casted level to create the rune. This feature can only be used for spells up to 6th level. Upcasting a level does not change the base level that a spell is considered to be.

Runic Master

Starting at 14th level, you have mastered the art of Rune Crafting. In addition to now being able to have three runes active at one time, your runes now last until they are activate or dispelled. Furthermore, a creature that attempts to dispel or counterspell your rune, using a spell slot lower than the one used to craft it, makes the check at disadvantage.

When you attempt to create a Rune on an unwilling creature, they must now make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC instead.
