The Pact of Ambivalence warlock subclass delves into the realms of uncertainty, where both great success and disastrous failure await. As a warlock who embraces this enigmatic path, you are attuned to the capricious nature of fate, harnessing its power to manipulate outcomes and take calculated risks. Through a pact with an entity that embodies the essence of reward and chance, you gain abilities that can lead to extraordinary triumphs or dire consequences.
Fickle Fate (1st Level)
At 1st level, you gain proficiency in the Insight skill, representing your ability to read and understand the ever-changing tides of fate. Additionally, you can use your bonus action to roll a d20. On a result of 11-20, you gain advantage on your next ability check, attack roll, or saving throw. On a result of 1-10, you gain disadvantage on your next ability check, attack roll, or saving throw. Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
Twisted Fortune (6th Level)
Your connection to the chaotic forces of destiny allows you to manipulate outcomes in unexpected ways. Once per short rest, when you make an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can choose to roll an additional d20 and use the result instead of the original roll. However, if both dice show the same number, the result is an automatic critical success or critical failure, depending on the original intention of the roll.
Perilous Gambit (10th Level)
You can tap into the dangerous potential of your pact, taking risks that can yield remarkable rewards. As an action, you can choose to make a perilous gambit. Roll a d20 and consult the following table to determine the outcome:
- Roll Result:
- 1: Fateful Misfortune - The gambit ends in disastrous failure.
- 2-4: Catastrophic Backfire - The gambit goes horribly wrong.
- 5-10: Moderate Failure - The gambit doesn't go as planned.
- 11-15: Moderate Success - The gambit succeeds, granting enhanced spellcasting.
