Warlock
Base Class: Warlock

Your patron is a powerful phantom whose motives depend on who they were in life. A noble hero may have chosen you to continue their legacy and the fight against evil, or they may have had unfinished business when they died. A vengeful enemy may have chosen you to keep their soul connected to the material plane so they attempt to influence you for their own personal gain, whether it be continuing their conquest or trying to find a living vessel to transfer their soul into. Regardless of who your patron is and their intentions for choosing you, they are one with you and share your body with you, though they are unable to exert control over you. As such, you can communicate with your patron with your thoughts and you can hear their response, so long as they are willing to respond.

Depending on the relationship with the phantom, their personality may start to rub off on you and it may become hard to differentiate between you patrons words and your own thoughts. Regardless of your relationship with the patron, they begin to influence your physical form in minor ways. Your skin may begin to grow paler and you start to prefer the darkness. You may appear to age rapidly, but will not physically have aged faster. Your body may gradually lower its core temperature without any ill effects and, depending on how long you have been bound to your patron, you may have a chilling air around yourself that is unsettling to others.

The Phantom does not count as a separate entity since it is bound to you and your soul, so it can’t be targeted by attacks, spells or effects. It does not count as an undead creature and will not trigger any effects of spells relating to undead creatures, though people will be able to tell that you have a somewhat necrotic aura around you on closer inspection.

Gifts from the Grave

Starting at 1st level, you learn the languages your patron knew in life, if you do not know them already. You gain darkvision out to 60 feet if you do not already have it. If you have darkvision it increases by 60 feet, to a maximum of 120 feet. Additionally, you gain the memories of your parton, so long as they are willing to share them with you.

Your connection to your patron allows you to flash a ghostly visage a number of times equal to your charisma modifier, minimum of 1, creating a spectral aura around you that appears in anyway you like, but will not be able to interact with your surroundings. The face of your patron flashes onto yours and you gain advantage on intimidation checks.

Spectral Step

Starting at 6th level, you begin to move as your patron does. You move silently and are undetectable by tremorsense. Additionally, you gain the ability to step through walls, the floor and ceilings, as well as the ability to attempt to phase through attacks. You have use of this feature a number of times equal to your known eldritch invocations. You recover half of the expended uses, minimum of one, of Spectral Step when you finish a short rest and all uses when you finish a long rest.

It requires 1 use of this feature to travel up to 3 feet through a surface, but you can expend an additional use to travel an additional 3 feet, so long as you have a use of Spectral Step remaining. The knowledge and experience of your patron allows you to tell whether or not you can make it through the surface with the number of uses you have remaining, but you can’t tell how many uses it will take to travel through the surface.

Spectral Step can also be used to attempt to avoid an attack. As a reaction, you can expend 2 uses of Spectral Step to impose disadvantage on the attacker.

Necrotic Nature

The undead nature of your patron causes necrotic energy to flow through you. You gain resistance to necrotic damage and can change the damage type of Eldritch Blast and non-magical weapons to deal necrotic damage. You choose to do so when you make the attack.

Phantom Form

The influence of your phantom patron allows you to temporarily channel their nature through you. As a bonus action, you surround yourself with the spectral energy of your patron and creatures of your choice within a 10 foot radius of you must make a wisdom saving throw against your warlock spell save DC. On a failed save they are frightened by you for the duration of Phantom Form. You remain empowered by your patron for 1 minute or until you dismiss it as a bonus action. You cannot use this ability again until you finish a long rest.

While empowered, you gain resistance to non-magical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage. You are unable to be charmed, frightened, or poisoned and lose those conditions if you were previously under their influence. For the duration of the empowerment, you ignore the effects of exhaustion, but do not lose any levels of exhaustion you are affected by.

You can now move through objects and other creatures as if they were difficult terrain but will take 1d10 force damage if you end your turn inside an object or wall. Your movement speed is increased by 15 feet and you are hovering over the ground, so you can control yourself if you are levitating by any means. Additionally, you are able to see 30 feet into the ethereal plane while you are on the material plane, and vice versa.

Any necrotic damage you deal to other creatures while empowered will require the target to make a constitution saving throw against your warlock spell save DC. On a failed save the targets hit point maximum is reduced by an amount equal to the damage dealt by the attack. This reduction lasts until the end of your Phantom Form. The target dies if this effect reduces their hit point maximum to 0.

If you kill an enemy with necrotic damage while in your Phantom Form you regain 1 use of Spectral Step, up to your Charisma modifier, but can’t go over your total uses of Spectral Step
