Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

While most rangers possess knowledge and no small degree of skill with animals, the rangers known as Wranglers are a cut above the rest. With deep insights into the behaviors and motivations of animals and monsters alike, these rugged survivalists take great pride in their abilities to tame, control and befriend all sorts of fantastical creatures.

Monster Tamer

Beginning at 3rd level when you choose this archetype, you have extensive knowledge of beasts and other monsters, granting you insights into how to best deal with such creatures. You gain the following benefits:

  • You gain proficiency in the Wisdom (Animal Handling) skill. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make using this skill.
  • Your weapon attacks score a critical hit against beasts and monstrosities on a 19-20.
  • You have advantage on Strength (Athletics) checks made to grapple, climb or wrestle beasts or monstrosities.
  • Any enchantment spell you cast capable of targeting a humanoid, can also target a beast or monstrosity.

Wrangler Magic

Also at 3rd level, you learn an additional spell when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Wrangler Spells table. The spell counts as a ranger spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of ranger spells you know.

Bring to Heel

At 7th level, you can bend the creatures of the wild to your will. You gain the following features:

Rein In. When a beast or monstrosity within 30 feet of you makes a saving throw to end or resist being charmed by you, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on its saving throw.

Wrangler's Command. As an action, you can command a beast or monstrosity that is currently charmed by you to take an action in its statblock or some other action of your choice, provided you are within 30 feet of it and that it can hear you.

At 15th level, you can use this feature as a bonus action, instead of requiring an action.

Expert Tamer

At 11th level, the bonds you forge with the beasts you wrangle become nigh-unbreakable. Enchantment spells you cast on beasts and monstrosities last until your concentration is broken, and beasts and monstrosities that are charmed by you do not turn hostile against you once the charmed condition ends.

Wrangler of Legends

At 15th level, your wrangling skills go beyond mere beasts, allowing you to tame and control even the most ferocious creatures. All of your subclass features that affect beasts and monstrosities can also affect celestials, dragons, fey, fiends, giants, plants and oozes with an Intelligence score equal to or less than your ranger level. Moreover, you do not break concentration on enchantment spells you cast on beasts and monstrosities by taking a short- or long rest.
