Base Class: Barbarian
Some barbarians are destined to become more than warriors, they will not lead by force, but by example. The experience guides them to the world of the unseen, the reverence of the spiritual worlds beyond the material, but they don't heed the call of their ancestors, they follow the call of the primordial spirits of the land and the elements, they call for their aid and the spirits answers their call with the gift of magic.
Spellcasting
At 3rd level, the Shaman Barbarian gains access to a limited selection of spells that reflect their connection with the natural world. These spells focus on evocation spells for offense, healing spells for support, and spells that require concentration to provide utility and control. The Shaman Barbarian uses their Wisdom as their spellcasting ability for these spells, and they learn and prepare spells as a Shaman would. The Shaman Barbarian's spellcasting ability is based on their connection with the spirits of the land and the elements, rather than traditional spellcasting.
Spritual Trance
Starting at 3rd level, when you enter a Rage, you can choose to enter in Trance. If you do so, you can cast a spell you know that requires Concentration without breaking your Rage (you still need to use the casting time rules).
This unique ability allows the Shaman Barbarian to maintain their heightened state of rage while still utilizing spells to unleash the powerful magic of the spirits upon their enemies.
When you take damage, you can make a Concentration check but you can add your Rage bonus damage to it as an ability bonus. Ending your Rage also ends the spell effect, and if you lost concentration on the spell you end your Rage.
Spiritual Shield
At 6th level, the Shaman Barbarian gains the ability to summon protective energy from the spirits of nature.
While raging, if an attack would hit you or an ally you can see within 30 ft., you may use your reaction to spend a magic spell slot to create a shield of elemental energy around yourself or your ally. The shield provides temporary hit points equal to (5 x Spell slot level) + your Rage bonus, and it lasts for the duration of your Rage.
This feature allows the Shaman Barbarian to provide additional protection to themselves or their allies while maintaining their Rage.
Arcane Fury
At 10th level, the Shaman Barbarian's connection with the elements grows stronger. When you cast a spell while raging, you may choose one of two different effects:
- If you cast a spell that requires an attack check, you can add your Rage bonus to that check and the damage dealt with the spell.
- If you cast a spell that requires an opponent to make a Saving Throw, you can add your Rage bonus to your Spell Save DC.
The spell still needs to require Concentration to be cast while raging.
This ability enhances the Shaman Barbarian's offensive capabilities, allowing them to unleash devastating spells infused with their primal rage.
Spiritual Resilience
At 14th level, the Shaman Barbarian gains enhanced control over their concentration.
While raging, you have advantage on concentration checks to maintain spells that require concentration.
Additionally, if you take damage while concentrating on a spell, you can use your reaction to make an opportunity attack with advantage to an enemy in your range.
This ability reflects the Shaman Barbarian's mastery over their mind and body, allowing them to maintain their spells even in the midst of intense combat.
