Tactician

Some Artificer's dedicate their time to creating magical inventions. Tacticians, however, focus their keen minds on developing battle plans and creating ingenious combat techniques. While they are still apt to create magical items to help them when in a fight, they would prefer to make maps of battlefield strategies and preparations for wartime. A tactician is willing to get their hands dirty at the front of the lines, preparing their defense to withstand any attack while making enemies pay for any openings.

Tactician Spells

Starting at 3rd level, you always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Tactician Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don't count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

The Best Defense

At 3rd level, you've enhanced your shield so it can act as a weapon. Your shield counts as a simple weapon with the light, thrown (20/60), and finesse properties. It deals 1d6 bludgeoning damage. Additionally, as a reaction, you can hide behind your shield and it provides you with half-cover causing the enemy to potentially miss with their attack. Your shield can act as a spell focus for your Artificer spells.

At 9th level, the damage your shield does increases to 2d6 and by 14th level it increases to 3d6.

Combat Armor

When you take this subclass, you develop a light weight metal alloy that you can imbue into your armor. Wearing medium armor doesn't impose disadvantage on your Dexterity (Stealth) checks. Also, when you wear medium armor, you can add 3, rather than 2, to your AC if you have a Dexterity of 16 or higher.

Extra Attack

Beginning at 5th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.

Calculated Caster

At 9th level, you can quickly cast a spell while attacking. When you use your action to cast a spell, you can use a bonus action to attack with your shield.

Resourceful Mind

You have prepared for every scenario you might encounter in a combat situation. At 15th level, you have advantage on attack rolls and saving throws.
