Base Class: Wizard
Wizards who choose to study in the school of battle do not wish to continue fighting from the sidelines. Instead, they join ranks with the common soldier, fighting side by side with their fellows through thick and thin. These wizards apply martial dedication to both their spellcasting and their weapon mastery, resulting in a fusion of the two in battle staves, their weapons of choice. Instead of using a thin staff or wand like most wizards that is unfit for battle, wizards of battle use polearms, increasing their versatility and augmenting their spells. While they specialize in no particular school of magic, wizards of battle tend towards evocation magic, as it is the most suited towards the battlefield. Others opt for transmutation magic to alter the very ground they stand on, giving themselves a tactical advantage. It is not the style of magic that binds wizards of battle together, though, but the need to fight not from the back, directing others and lobbing spells, but getting up close and personal with the enemy and seeing their face cleave in two as you strike them down.
Martial Training
When you adopt this tradition at 2nd level, you gain proficiency in light armor, or medium armor if you are already proficient, as well as proficiency in spears, glaives, halberds, and smith's tools.
Battle Staves
At 2nd level, you gain the ability to turn a hafted weapon into a battle staff as part of a short or long rest. The process involves going through a series of military drills while connecting with the weapon magically, as well as modifying it with smithing tools to make the battle staff more suit your needs. After you turn a weapon into a battle staff you may change its damage type to piercing or slashing damage if you use smith's tools to create a new metal head for it. Weapons able to be turned into a battle staff include spears, quarterstaves, halberds, and glaives, and other weapons consisting of a long wooden handle and a metal blade or spike at the end, including magical staves.
Hafted weapons for you act as spellcasting focuses regardless of if you've turned them into a battle staff or not. Additionally, when you cast a damaging spell of 1st level or higher while weilding a hafted weapon, you may imbue your weapon with the magical energy of the spell, making it deal an extra 1d4 damage of the spell's damage type on its next attack. This damage die increases to 1d6 at 5th level, 1d8 at 10th level, 1d10 at 14th level, and 1d12 at 17th level.
Rigorous Training
Your school of battle training progresses, increasing your martial skill. You gain proficiency with medium armor, or heavy armor if you are already proficient. Whenever you cast a spell of 1st level or higher that only damages a single target, you may, as a bonus action, move up to 10 ft. towards the target or immediately make a melee weapon attack against the target.
Enhanced Battle Staves
Your experience with battle staves helps improve your spellcasting ability. Starting at 10th level, while weilding a battle staff, ranged spell attacks can be cast 15 ft. farther and melee spell attacks can be cast through the staff, giving them additional reach. Attacks made with a battle staff are considered magical for the purposes of damage resitances, and you may add your Intelligence modifier to your attack and damage rolls made with the staff.
Magical Endurance
At 14th level, after dealing enhanced damage with your battle staff, you may expend a spell slot. If you do so, you may heal equal to 5 x the level of spell slot. Additionally, while wearing armor you are proficient with, you may make an extra attack each turn.
