Base Class: Wizard
Magic comes to all as it is meant to. For most wizards, diligent study from the comfort of a university, a master's study, or a laboratory suits them best. However, even in the realm of the most studious of magic user, born adventurers can be found. Among these arcane scholars, lorehunters are the most adventurous and wandering of their kin. Unlike other wizards, the lorehunter usually discovers magic more organically, be that through discovering a cast off tome of magic and trying to read from it, or by feeling the pulse of magical energy through a magical ruin or object they discover.
Whatever the first find may be, the lorehunter's thirst for this organic discovery of arcane power blossoms, giving way to the path of the lorehunter. These wayward wizards wander whimsically into wonderous wells of arcane wisdom, finding all manner of magic that they reverse engineer from enchanted objects, magical locales, and even magical creatures. Their experimentation with the arcane leads to a more unique selection of spells, often favoring magics which will help them in their dungeon delves and expeditions.
Lorehunter's Skills
2nd-level Lorehunter feature
The Lorehunter is an adept traveler and explorer, having delved into situations where few of their scholarly kin would tread. Lorehunters gain proficiency in their choice of 2 additional skills, as well as with Thieves' Tools and one Artisan's Tool of their choosing. In addition, the Lorehunter may select spells from the Bard's spell list to add to their own spells as Wizard Spells.
Arcane Tap
2nd-level Lorehunter feature
You have discovered far greater secrets of arcane magics through the study of magical objects than through reading tomes. As such, you have learned to draw upon magics within objects and locations with great efficacy.
You gain the following benefits:
- You can use any magical item you are attuned to as a spellcasting focus for your Wizard Spells.
- You may use a magical item, rather than a scroll or spellbook, to transcribe new spells to your spellbook. You may transcribe any spell that exists within a magical object in your possession the same way you could from another spellbook. In addition, you may transcribe a spell whose damage, resistance, or other such effect is caused by a magical item's effect to your spellbook, so long as it is a spell of a level you can cast, but doing so takes twice as long.
- You can cast Detect Magic and Identify a number of times equal to your Intelligence Modifier, each, without consuming a spell slot or casting them as a ritual. You regain all uses of these spells upon completing a short or long rest.
Lore Magic
6th-level Lorehunter feature
Beginning at 6th level, you have found great insights into arcane magics through the artifacts and magical objects you have studied. Select any two spells of a spell level you may cast from any spell list. These spells are Wizard Spells for you, and are always prepared. You do not lose access to these spells if your spellbook is destroyed. You gain an additional spell from this class feature at 9th, 12th, 15th, and 18th level.
Arcane Delver
10th-level Lorehunter feature
Beginning at 10th level, you have become uncannily adept at delving into dungeons and seeking out sources of magical power. You gain the ability to cast find traps and locate object a number of times equal to your Intelligence Modifier, each, without expending spell slots or casting them as a ritual, regaining all uses of both these spells upon completing a short or long rest. In addition, you gain proficiency in two skills or tools of your choosing.
Master Lorehunter
14th-level Lorehunter feature
Your mastery of unearthing arcane secrets has surpassed all expectation. You may now cast legend lore once without expending a spell slot, regaining use of this ability any time you complete a short or long rest. In addition, you gain expertise in Arcana and any one additional skill you already have proficiency in.
