Hidalgos are fighters who have dedicated themselves to the chivalric code, protecting their allies with unwavering determination. Despite their occasional delusions, their commitment to their cause is unparalleled.

 

Delusional Defense

At 3rd level, you can use your reaction to protect an ally from an attack. When a creature hits an ally within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to reduce the damage taken by the ally by an amount equal to your fighter level + your Charisma modifier. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

 

Defender's Shield

Starting at 7th level, you can use your shield to protect nearby allies. If a creature makes an attack roll against an ally within 5 feet of you and you have a shield equipped, the ally gains a bonus to their AC equal to your Charisma modifier (maximum +2) against that attack. This feature doesn't require an action.

 

Errant Resilience

At 10th level, you gain resistance to a damage type of your choice (acid, cold, fire, lightning, necrotic, radiant, thunder, poison, bludgeoning, slashing, or piercing). Once you choose a damage type, you can't change it later.

Dauntless Protector

Starting at 15th level, you can protect multiple allies with your Delusional Defense feature. When you use Delusional Defense, you can choose two allies within 5 feet of you instead of one. Additionally, you can use Delusional Defense a number of additional times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

 

Knight's Indomitable Wil

At 18th level, your dedication to your cause allows you to protect your allies from critical hits. If a creature hits an ally who benefits from your Defender's Shield feature with a critical hit, you can use your reaction to turn that critical hit into a regular hit. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
