Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

A barbarian could have gained a companion in a number of ways. A small wolf cub could have gotten separated from its pack and is now being raised by a barbarian with a kind soul. A bond could have been formed with a wild tiger after sharing it's kill after a hunt. Whatever the reason, these barbarians rely on their companions as much as their companions rely on them.

Beastial Companion

Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, you forge a powerful bond with a beastial companion who supports you in combat. Your beastial companion does not possess an independent statblock nor require a token. Instead, it grants you distinct combat benefits and aids you in various capacities.

Additionally, you gain proficiency with Animal Handling and cast cast Speak with Animals once per long rest.

Retrieve Weapon

At 3rd level you gain the ability to apply your rage damage to thrown weapon attacks. Additionally, when you make a thrown weapon attack at a target within 60 ft of you, your companion retrieves it for you, causing it to return to you at the end of your turn.

Once per turn while you are raging, when your companion retrieves a weapon it can lash out against a creature within 5 ft of the weapon's target. Have your companion make a melee attack with a bonus equal to your strength modifier plus your proficiency bonus. If it hits it deals 1d6 damage plus your rage damage. The damage type is the same as that of the weapon used.

At 10th level, the damage die for this attack increases to 1d8.

Protective Bond

At 6th level, when a creature would hit you with a melee attack you can use your reaction to call your companion to intervene, pouncing on the attacker and catching them off balance. Have the attacker roll again and use the lower of the two attack rolls. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. You regain all uses of this feature when you complete a long rest.

Shared Bond

At 10th level your Protective Bond can also be used to protect your allies. When a creature you can see within 30 feet of you would be hit by a melee attack, you can use your Protective bond to direct your companion to defend them. Additionally, if you are raging when you use your Protective Bond and the attack still hits, the damage is reduced by an amount equal to your barbarian level.

Savage Bond

At 14th level, your companion has grown to be a formidable ally in combat. While raging you can use a bonus action you can cause your companion to make a melee attack against a creature within 60 feet of you. The bonus for this attack equals your strength modifier plus your proficiency bonus. The attack deals 1d12 + your rage damage slashing damage on a hit and the target must make a Strength saving throw [DC = 8 + Con + prof] or fall prone.

Additionally, you can take the dash action as a bonus action as your companion carries you for a short distance.
