Base Class: Fighter
A reconnaissance specialist is skilled in avoiding detection and collecting intelligence. Fighters trained in reconnaissance serve as scouts and lookouts, performing surveillance from an advance position or keeping watch from the rear.
Reconnaissance Training
When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in the Nature and Stealth skills if you don't already have it. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses either of those proficiencies.
Sentry
Starting at 3rd level, as an action, you can enter a state of heightened perception, which lasts until you attack, cast a spell, or move more than 5 feet on a single turn. While in this state, you have advantage on all Wisdom (Perception) checks made to detect hidden creatures. Once you use this feature, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use it again.
Vanguard
Starting at 3rd level, you are adept at remaining undetected while scouting ahead, and returning to the group quickly and quietly. While traveling alone for a minute or more, you gain the following benefits:
- Difficult terrain doesn't slow your travel
- You can move stealthily at a fast pace
Silence Foes
Starting at 7th level, you can stop a fight before it happens. You have advantage on any attack roll or Strength (Athletics) check made to grapple against a creature that is surprised. While grappled by you, a creature cannot speak or vocally produce sounds. Once per turn, when you score a hit against a creature that hasn't taken a turn in the combat yet, you can apply one of the following affects, which lasts until the end of your next turn:
- The creature's speed is reduced to 0.
- The creature can't speak or vocally produce sounds.
At 18th level, you can apply those affects any number of times per turn against creatures that haven't taken a turn in combat yet.
Observation Specialist
Starting at 10th level, if you spend at least 1 minute observing a creature or group of creatures outside of combat, you can learn certain information about their relationships, command structure, and capabilities. The DM tells you if a creature of your choice is your equal, superior or inferior in regard to two of the following characteristics of your choice:
- Dexterity Score
- Constitution Score
- Wisdom Score
- Armor Class
- Current hit points
- Total Class Levels (if any)
If you spend at least 10 minutes observing, the DM tells you one of the following:
- Which creature or creatures are the leadership of the group
- How many days the creature or group has been traveling for; if it is more than 30 days, you do not know the specific number of days
- The purpose of a group of three or more creatures. The DM tells you commerce, war, hunting, relocation, or none of those.
- If a specific creature is a spellcaster
- If a specific creature is proficient in the stealth skill
- If a specific creature is proficient in the perception skill
Stealth Specialist
Starting at 15th level, you lead your team in matters of stealth. While remaining motionless, you and all allies within 30 feet get a +10 bonus to all stealth checks made to remain silent. Each creature must maintain concentration to retain this bonus.
You can spend 1 hour creating camouflage. Using materials from the surrounding environment, you camouflage yourself and up to 10 other creatures that are size medium or smaller. You can also camouflage objects. For the purposes of camouflage, an object counts as 1 creature for every 5x5 cubic area it takes up. While they remain motionless, creatures are heavily obscured. If you camouflaged objects, the DC to notice them is 8 + your proficiency bonus + your wisdom modifier. If a camouflaged object is size medium or smaller, the DC increases by 5. An inspection from within 5 feet reveals camouflaged objects or creatures.
Master Ambusher
A creature hit by an attack using your Silence Foes feature takes 2d6 additional damage, and must succeed on a constitution saving throw, or it cannot speak or verbally produce sounds for 1 minute. The DC is equal to 8 + your strength or dexterity modifier + your proficiency bonus. Once you use this feature, you must finish a long rest before you can use it again.
