Base Class: Barbarian
Under the certain circumstances barbarians can find themselves in a strong connection with shadows. Some gain this mysterious link as a scar on their souls after being exposed to the Shadowfell's energies, while others can have some innate ability to call upon the darkness. As you enter the rage, you fall in a trance, inviting the shadows to possess your body, granting you different abilities.
Shadow Trance
At 3rd level, the shadow entities possess you, as you enter the trance. When you enter your rage, roll on the Shadow Manifestation table to determine the magical effect produced.
If the effect requires a saving throw, the DC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier.
| Shadow Trance | |
|---|---|
| d8 | Effect |
| 1 |
A Shadow possesses your body. A shadow hand appears from your chest dealing 2d6 + 2 necrotic damage to an enemy in 5 ft. range. Until your rage ends, you can use this effect again on each of your turns as a bonus action. |
| 2 | A Bodak possesses your body. When a creature that can see barbarian's eyes starts its turn within 10 feet of the barbarian, you can force it to make a DC13 Constitution saving throw if the barbarian isn't incapacitated and can see the creature. If the saving throw fails, a creature takes 3d6 psychic damage on a failed save. Until your rage ends, you can use this effect again on each of your turns as a bonus action. |
| 3 | A cloaker possesses your body. You create an illusory duplicate of yourself within 20 feet of you if it isn't in bright light. The duplicate can move and deals 1d6 damage similar to your weapon ones. If the duplicate is ever in an area of bright light, the duplicates disappears, leaving a dark mist cloud within range to fill a 15-foot-radius sphere, similar to the Darkness spell. The duplicate or the dark mist last until your rage is over. |
| 4 | A Spectre posesses your body. You make a melee atack, the target takes 1d6 necrotic damage, and you regain hit points equal to the amount of necrotic damage dealt. Until your rage ends, you can use this effect again on each of your turns as a bonus action. |
| 5 | A Wraith possesses your body. You target a humanoid within 10 feet of it that has been dead for no longer than 1 minute and died violently. The target's spirit rises as a shadow spirit in the space of its corpse or in the nearest unoccupied space. The spirit is under the barbarian's control and deals 2d6 necrotic damage. The barbarian can have no more than one specter under its control at one time. Until your rage ends, you can use this effect again on each of your turns as a bonus action. |
| 6 | A Shadow Fiend possesses your body. You are covered with the dark fog. You can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. It takes 1d6 force damage if you end your turn inside an object. This effect lasts until your rage is over. If your rage ends while you are in an object, you gain 2d10 damage and teleport up to 3 feet to an unoccupied space near the object you are in. |
| 7 | Shadow energies pierce through your body, dealing 1d6 damage to 6 or less enemies within 10 feet of you. You should reroll the Shadow Trance effect next turn if your rage isn't over. |
| 8 | More than one shadow entity are summoned in your body. Roll d6 twice to define the two shades to posess your body (1-6). |
Darkvision
At 3rd lvl you gain Darkvision. Due to your shadow nature, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Shadow Self
At 6th lvl you get Shadow Self. Your union with the shadows grows larger and your body gets covered with shadow scars. You can cast Invisibility on self once per long rest.
Dark Care
At 10th lvl you get Dark Care. Your eyes are more accustomed to darkness, than to the light, and your mind is more sharp in the shadows. While you are in dark and dim conditions, you have advantage on Wisdom (Insight) checks, and your Darkvision's range increases by 30 feet.
Deep Trance
At 14th lvl you get Deep Trance. While Shadow Trance, after personally killing a humanoid creature, you can reroll your Shadow Trance as a bonus action. The entity, already possessing you, inhabit the humanoid's corpse that you created this turn, creating a shadow zombie under your control. You can create up to 5 shadow zombies. If you reroll with two entities possessing you (if you rolled 8 for Shadow Trance), you blow up the humanoid's corpse instead, dealling 2d10 necrotic damage to every creature besides you within range to fill a 15-foot-radius sphere, with the corpse being a centre.
