Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Whether they're found in the kitchen of your local tavern or crafting culinary masterpieces for royalty, a chef is always wanted around. So what happens if they use those knife skills to carve up living flesh rather than dead? They become a ravenour, hunters of the unique and devourers of the disgusting. They craft delicious dishes from any creature they find, bolstering their strength and stealing their powers to gather more twisted ingredients. Let's hope you're not on the menu.

Combat Chef

Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, you have be trained extensively in the use of all kinds of chef's tools, in all manner of situations. You gain proficiency with Cook's Utensils and improvised weapons.

Deadly Dishes

Also at 3rd level, you can use the flesh of your fallen foes to empower you, altering your abilities. Over the course of a short rest, you can harvest a slain creature that is not a construct or elemental. You can then craft a flavourful dish from their remains, depending on the type of creature. As an action, you or another creature can consume the dish, gaining the effects listed on the table below. The effects will last for different amounts of time, depending on the dish. You can have a number of dishes at a time equal to your proficiency bonus, and they will last up to 3 days before spoiling and becoming inedible.

Creature Type Effect When Consumed Duration
Aberration You gain resistance to psychic damage. When a creature strikes you with a melee weapon attack, they take 1d8 psychic damage.  1 minute
Beast You can understand and communicate with creatures of the same type as the one you consumed, similar to the Speak With Animals spell. Your unarmed strikes also deal an additional 1d6 slashing damage.  8 hours
Celestial You gain resistance to radiant damage. Your weapon attacks deal an additional 1d8 radiant damage. 1 minute
Dragon You grow powerful draconic wings, gaining a flying speed of 50 feet. Your weapon attacks deal an additional 1d4 damage, the type dependent on the dragon's breath weapon. If they do not have a breath weapon, then the damage type is the same as your usual attack. 1 hour
Fey You are immune to being Charmed and Frightened. Your thoughts and emotions cannot be read telepathically unless you allow it.  8 hours
Fiend You gain resistance to fire damage. When you take damage, you can use your reaction to teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. 1 minute
Giant Your size increases to Large, unless you already were, and your weapon attacks deal an additional 1d8 bludgeoning damage. 1 minute
Humanoid You can use your action to shapeshift into the creature, similar to the Alter Self spell. You gain their languages, but not their memories, spells, class features or racial abilities. 1d4 days
Monstrosity You gain resistance to acid damage, and have advantage on Intimidation checks.  8 hours
Ooze  You can squeeze through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide, provided you are wearing and carrying nothing. You can move through the space of another creature, regardless of size, without a movement penalty. 1 hour
Plant Your melee reach increases by 10 feet. 8 hours
Undead You gain resistance to necrotic damage. When you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you instead drop to 1 hit point. Once this ability activates, you lose this effect.  1 hour

Voracious Appetite

At 6th level, you have become accustomed to eating all kinds of different food, from seared zombie flesh to beholder's eye soup. You are now immune to poison damage and the Poisoned condition. When you use your action to consume one of your dishes, you can make a single weapon attack as a part of that action.

Medicinal Meals

At 10th level, your dishes carry medicinal properties, bolstering those who eat them. When a creature consumes one of your dishes, they will regain 1d6 + your Constitution modifier hit points. If this healing would bring them over their maximum hit points, they gain any extra as temporary hit points. These hit points are immune to poison and acid damage, and last until they complete a long rest.

Barbarous Blends

At 14th level, your experimentation with different flavour combinations allows you to combine your dishes into unorthodox delights. When you create a deadly dish, you can combine it with a different dish you already have. When it is consumed, it will grant both effects, lasting for the shorter duration of the two dishes. This combination counts as one dish towards the maximum amount you can carry.

In addition, your deadly dishes no longer spoil, staying magically fresh and lasting until they are consumed.
