Monk
Base Class: Monk

You follow a monastic tradition that teaches you to harness the inherent powers of nature, seeking to maintain a balance with the natural world. When you focus your ki, you can draw upon the powers of nature to enhance, protect and punish those who would go against the natural balance and order. Some members of this tradition dedicate themselves to a specific deity of Nature while other's simply serve the balance.

Bonus Proficiencies

Your martial arts technique mixes combat training with a deep understanding of the balance of nature.

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in the Natureskill if you don’t already have it. You also gain proficiency with either Herbalism kit or Poisoner's Kit (your choice) if you don’t already have it.

Feel the Flow

Monks of the Verdant Path learn to utilize their ki to sense and manipulate the flow of the energies of nature.

This elemental control allows you to cast some spells. See the Spellcasting section for the general rules of spellcasting. To cast one of these spells, you use its casting time and other rules, but you don’t need to provide material components for it. You can spend additional ki points to increase the level of the spell that you cast, provided that the spell has an enhanced effect at a higher level, as erupting earth does. The spell’s level increases by 1 for each additional ki point you spend. For example, if you are a 13th-level monk and use Feel the Flow to cast erupting earth you can spend 5 ki points to cast it as a 4th-level spell (the discipline’s base cost of 4 ki points plus 1).

The maximum number of ki points you can spend to cast a spell in this way (including its base ki point cost and any additional ki points you spend to increase its level) is determined by your monk level, as shown in the Spells and Ki Points table.

Spells and Ki Points

Monk Levels Maximum Ki Points for a Spell
5th–8th 3
9th–12th 4
13th–16th 5
17th–20th 6

Beginning at 3rd level, you may expend 1 Ki point to cast either ensnaring strike or animal friendship.

At 6th level, your connection to the primal forces is strengthened and nature seeks to aid your passage and hinder your enemies. You can expend 2 ki point to cast Pass without Trace or 2 ki points to cast entangle with the additional benefit that you are not inhibited by your own entangle spell.

At 11th level, your connection with nature has deepened even further, granting you access to even stronger abilities. You may choose to expend 4 Ki Points to cast Erupting Earth or 5 Ki points to cast Commune with Nature.

At 17 level, your connection to nature is absolute as well as your understanding of the connection between all living things. You may choose to expend 6 Ki Points to cast transport via plants or to cast wall of thorns.

Leave No Trace

At 6th level, nature itself seeks to aid your passage and slow those who would pursue you.

You and a number of individuals equal to your monk level can no longer be tracked by non-magical means. Additionally, a monk of the Verdant Path is unhindered by non-magical difficult terrain.

Primal Form

At 17th level your mastery of the primal forces allows you to empower your form with elemental essence granting you additional protection and additional abilities based on what element you evoke.

You may expend 8 ki points to activate this feature, after which you gain a number of temporary hit points equal to three times your monk level. So long as you have these temporary hit points your AC is increased by 4, your size increases to Large, you gain resistance to Bludgeoning, Piercing, and Slashing from Nonmagical Attacks, and you gain an additional reach of 5 feet on all of your attacks.

Upon activation, you may also select one of the following abilities and it remains active so long as you retain the temporary hit points granted by this ability:

  • Earth Glide. You can burrow through nonmagical, unworked earth and stone. While doing so, you don't disturb the material you move through.
  • Flight:  You gain a fly speed of 90 feet (hover) and cold resistance.
  • Swim Speed: You gain a swim speed of 90 feet and can breathe underwater.
  • Fire Form. You can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide without squeezing. A creature that touches you or hits you with a melee attack while within 5 feet of you takes 5 (1d10) fire damage.

Nature's Embrace

The spirits of the natural world grant you their knowledge and guidance.

At 11th level, your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses either nature check or a survival check relating to interacting with the natural world.

Additionally, you may choose to expend 1 ki point to gain advantage on a roll relating to either of these two skills.
