Monk
Base Class: Monk

Within all sentient beings, there is a burning spark of energy, of life, known as a soul. Many cannot even fathom the might of their soul, but through rigorous training, empowering your body, and mastering the martial might of Ki, you have learned to bring forth the force of your spirit. Though all creatures are different in their own ways, the soul manifests in a amplitude of current.

Storm Within

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you gain the ability to unleash the lightning arcing within your soul. As a bonus action, you can spend 1 Ki points to reveal your thunderous nature. This transformation lasts for 1 hour, until you dismiss it (no action required), or until you die. You gain the following benefits for a duration:

  • You can choose for your unarmed strikes to deal either lightning or bludgeoning damage.
  • When you are hit by a melee weapon attack, the creature that attacked you takes lightning damage equal to your Wisdom modifier.
  • You shed bright light within 30 feet of you, and dim light for another 30 feet.

You can choose for your unarmed strikes to deal either lightning or bludgeoning damage.

Flowing Current

At 6th level, the current from your body flows around you, granting you electric speed. As a bonus action on your turn, or as part of the bonus action you take to activate Storm within, you can spend one additional Ki point to gain the following additional benefits:

  • Your entire body is consumed by electricity, turning you into a force of nature. You have resistance to lightning and thunder damage, if you did not already have it.
  • Moving doesn’t provoke opportunity attacks. Also, your jump distance is doubled.
  • Instead of walking on the ground, you can choose to hover above it at will. You can hover no more than 1 foot above any solid or liquid surface. You have a hover speed equal to your walking speed, and you ignore difficult terrain.
Lightning Resistance

Your entire body is consumed by lightning, turning you into a force of nature. You have resistance to lightning and thunder damage, if you did not already have it.

Thunderous Strike

Starting at 11th level, you can strike with such intensity that it electrifies the air. As an action on your turn, you can expend 4 Ki points, striking the air in front of you and creating a 5 by 30 ft. line. Creatures and constructs within this line must make a dexterity saving throw. On a fail, they take 7d10 lightning damage, are knocked back 20 feet. On a success, they take half as much damage, and suffer none of the other effects. You can spend additional Ki points to increase the damage by 1d10 up to a number of Ki points equal to half of your proficiency bonus rounded down.

You also gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed.

Roaring Rebuke

At 17th level, your will represents a means of resisting death. When you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can rise to fight again with a roar of fire by dropping to 1 hit point instead. You automatically enter your Storm Within transformation and gain temporary hit points equal to half your hit point maximum, and then you stand up if you so choose. Each creature or construct of your choice that is within 30 feet of you takes Thunder damage equal to 4d8 + your Wisdom modifier, and is sent back 40 feet and knocked prone.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
