Base Class: Bard
Many Bards claim to have mastery over the hearts of other people, but no Bard can claim to have nearly as much as a Bard of the College of Heart. A Bard from this college first listens with great intent to the whispers present in every heartbeat, using those whispers however they see fit. Once they have learned their fill, they can softly pluck at the heartstrings of the creatures around them, often times so subtly that even other Bards are unaware of any magic happening.
The Bards of this College are often regarded with fear- the secrets they learn and the power they gain through the heartbeats of creatures around them are as unfathomably deep and dangerously unpredictable as a person's heart. A villainous bard from this college can listen to a person's heart and release all the evil and cruelty found there, while a virtuous Bard can inspire and make real a person's hopes, dreams, and wishes.
The true power of the Bards of this college lies in the powerful and dangerous Yoraya that they string from the hearts around them. This spiritual instrument both bolsters their own ability while simultaneously providing a conduit for their manipulation of the world around them.
Heart Murmur
You can freely sense the surface feelings and thoughts of creatures around you from the sounds of their heartbeats as if by the detect thoughts spell, though this effect is due to trained perception and insight, not magical ability. These thoughts and feelings must lie on the top of their heart and are feelings thought and felt presently. As an action, you can either shift your attention to another creature's Heart or attempt to listen harder to the heart of the same creature. If you probe deeper, you must make an Insight ability check with a DC equal to 10+half the level or challenge rating of the target. You gain insight into its reasoning (if any), its full emotional state, and learn things that loom large in its mind (such as something it worries over, loves, or hates). The creature is unaware that you are sensing these things about them. If the creature is aware that you are listening to their heartbeat, they can choose to allow you to automatically succeed or force you to have disadvantage on the Insight check.
You are capable of hearing heartbeats in this way only if you are capable of hearing the person speak. Physical barriers thicker than one foot prevent you from hearing heartbeats, as does any magical effect designed to block sound. The creature must also have a heartbeat, meaning that undead and constructs are immune to this ability.
When you reach level 6, any time you listen in to a creature in this way, you may add one string to your Yoraya.
Heart Seeker
When you Choose this College at 3rd level, gain proficiency and expertise in the Insight skill, as well as proficiency with Medium Armor. You also gain proficiency with martial weapons, and may substitute your charisma modifier for strength for your attack rolls.
Heart Stringer
Upon reaching the 6th level, you have learned to create a powerful Yoraya, a magical harp born from the whispers of people's hearts. This harp has no physical form, and as such cannot be damaged, broken, stolen, or given. It is born with and dies with the Bard who created it. The harp manifests as invisible strings around the Bard that they can pluck and strum like a normal harp, but its sound is felt, not heard, and as such cannot be silenced. You may choose to use your yoraya as a focus for your Bard spells.
Upon witnessing another creature take an action, you may use your reaction to make an Insight check with a DC of 10+half the creature's level or challenge rating. On a success, you thread one more string into the yoraya. You may have a maximum number of strings equal to your Charisma Modifier. Each threaded string increases your AC and damage per attack by 1. At maximum strings, you may take a second attack as part of your attack action. After each short or long rest, the yoraya's strings are lost.
Heart Warden
At Level 14, you have learned to use the power of your yoraya to manipulate people's hearts and actions. As an action on your turn, you may choose to expend a use of your Bardic Inspiration to pluck and snap one of the strings of your yoraya. The string is consumed, but you may choose a creature you can see and force it to make a Charisma Saving throw against your Bard Spellcasting DC. On a fail, you force it to perform one of the following actions during your turn:
- You may force the target to move up to its maximum speed to a point you choose, provoking any opportunity attacks.
- You may force the target to cast the last spell they cast at a target or area you designate.
- You may force the target to make a single unarmed or weapon attack at a target you choose within their range.
Creatures that are non-hostile to you automatically fail this saving throw, but may make an Intelligence check against your Charisma Modifier to recognize that you manipulated them.
