Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

The Oath of the Moonlight binds a paladin to guard against the shadows that threaten to cover the realms in darkness. Sometimes called silverstars, moon runners, or moon knights, such guardians often make offerings and prayers to deities like Selûne or Sehanine Moonbow. Having answered the call to hunt the night's terrors and battle forces of evil, these paladins serve as lights of hope, even in the darkest places.

TENETS OF THE MOONLIGHT

As the moon waxes and wanes, paladins who take the Oath of the Moonlight embrace change and adapt to meet the moment. Though their individual paths may vary, they generally share the following tenets.

Protect the Light. Where there is good and kindness in the world, stand against the cruelty that would snuff it out.

Fight the Darkness. Be ever vigilant of the threats that lurk in shadow. Root out the forces of evil and oppression, wherever they hide and whatever forms they take.

Share Your Light. Aid those in need. Guide those who have lost their way. Whenever possible, foster in others the strength to stand on their own against the darkness.

Light the Darkness. Let your joy, courage, and compassion shine forth in your words and deeds, inspiring hope in all you meet.

Oath Spells

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed.

Oath of the Moonlight Spells

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following Channel Divinity options.

Motes of Moonlight. As a bonus action, you can use your Channel Divinity to summon 3 motes of light for 1 minute. You can use any attack you make as part of the Attack action to expend one of these motes and send it streaking toward a creature you can see within 60 feet of you. The target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 2d8 radiant damage. On a successful save, the target takes half damage.

The motes shed an aura of silvery bright light 10 feet around you and dim light 10 feet beyond that. They disappear early if you dismiss them (no action required), are incapacitated, die, or expend the last mote.

You gain 1 additional mote at 7th, 11th, 15th and 18th level. The motes' damage increases at 11th level (3d8) and 18th level (4d8). At 18th level, the range of the bright and dim light shed by the motes each increase to 30 feet.

Word of Abjuration. As an action, you present your holy symbol and speak a prayer of admonition against evil shapechangers and undead. Each hostile shapechanger or undead within 30 feet that can see or hear you must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is turned for 1 minute or until it takes damage.

A turned creature must spend its turns trying to move as far away from you as it can, and it can’t willingly end its move in a space within 30 feet of you. It also can’t take reactions. For its action, it can use only the Dash action or try to escape from an effect that prevents it from moving. If there’s nowhere to move, the creature can take the Dodge action.

If a creature’s true form is concealed by illusion, shapeshifting, or transmutation magic, that form is revealed while it is turned.

Aura of Clarity

Starting at 7th level, you and friendly creatures within your Aura of Protection can’t be charmed while you are conscious. Friendly creatures who are already charmed are unaffected by that condition while in the aura.

Moonlight Sanctuary

Beginning at 15th level, the motes that you summon radiate protective energy. You and friendly creatures within the bright light created by your Motes of Moonlight have half cover.

Moon Fire

At 20th level, as a bonus action, you can emanate an aura of moonlight. For 1 minute, bright light shines from you in a 30-foot radius, and dim light shines 30 feet beyond that, granting the following benefits:

  • The light is magical and grants you truesight with a range of 60 feet.
  • You have advantage on Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws, as do friendly creatures within the bright light.
  • Whenever an enemy creature starts its turn in the bright light, that creature takes 10 radiant damage.

Once you use this bonus action, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest, unless you expend a 5th-level spell slot to use it again.

Optional Features

With your DM's permission, you may choose one or more of the following additional class and subclass features.

Lunar Sense

Starting at 3rd level, when you use your Divine Sense, you also detect shapechangers and polymorphed creatures.

Lunar Sight

At 3rd level, you gain darkvision with a range of 60 feet. If you have darkvision from another source, its range increases by 30 feet.
