Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

The Oath of Lepidoptera binds a paladin to the loftiest ideals of understanding, listening, balance, symbiosis, and metamorphosis. Sometimes called wretches, monsters, or watchers by the city folk—others call them guardians, witches, shamans, collectors, moss knights, or brush squatters—they hold the usual persona of the silent watcher or creature of the magic of the natural world. They understand and go through metamorphosis and the symbiosis between one and the others. They commonly hang around the night- summoning the knowledge of the great moths or the shimmering personas of the mighty moths of the flower fields. Many who swear this oath are collectors or guardians away from everyday society, trying to hold themselves to what they find and see. It is common for these paladins not to be religious to one specific entity but instead to the unity and metamorphosis of nature, understanding that we all come and go. It is common for them to idolize moths and butterflies, with insignia of wings, cacoons, and caterpillars covering them with the growth of flowers and trees left in their wake.

TENETS OF LEPIDOPTERA

Though the exact words and strictures of the Oath of Lepidoptera vary, paladins of this oath share these tenets.

Listening within the Quiet. Understanding that listening to the little things for oneself and others makes it important. Yet some things required to stay quiet, listening to the balancing factors of these quiet nuggets can inform the greatest of actions.

Balance, Symbiosis, and Metamorphosis. Life and death are as the moon and tide, one exists becuase of the other, and because of one we only see one aspect of the other. This gentle balance is what keeps life and death special. Just as the caterpillar grows, then morphs into an adult, wings spreading and allowing it to fly, in where the adult pollinates, and then in doing that it reproduces what the children need to survive, it reproduces and then dies, further feeding the ecosystem it requires. This symbiosis through metamorphosis brings the life to the most gentle and hard creatures of the world, it rules all. Even the soil itself is the dead and rotted mixing with the sediments of the mountains and rocks, washed by water and alive.

Watching in the Night. The night and dark lead you through the times of import, sometimes not being seen is the best that one can get.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Wings of Scale. As a bonus action, you draw your symbol on your chest and the gift of flight is given to you. You gain spectral wings behind you that spread far, allowing flight and protection. You gain a flying speed of 50 ft, and while flying your AC increases by your Charisma modifier.

You can end this effect on your turn as part of any other action and if you fall unconscious, this effect ends as well.

Chrysalis Weaving. As an action, you present your holy symbol and speak a prayer weaving a chrysalis around a subject, using your Channel Divinity. You touch an unconscious individual and weave a semitransparent silken cocoon around them. All healing centered on this individual is multiplied by 4 and they have 3/4's cover, but they are under the restrained condition. When or if they return to consciousness the Chrysalis begins to fall away, at this point it can be broken out of with a Strength (athletics) check against your spell save DC, is completely fallen away at the top of your next turn, allowing them to move freely.

This feature will stabilize anything inside of it and will last until a healing effect is used on the target inside, until then the target will stay unconscious until that moment. This can last indefinitely, although the cocoon restrains the individual inside, they can be moved around if they are uprooted, which should be a difficult check. While they are unconscious they age at 1/12th their normal rate. The Chrysalis is partially transparent and any spell that requires sight can pass through it.
