Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks of the Reaching Palm learn to focus their Ki, harnessing spells, extending their range, and imbuing them in others.

Spellcasting

When you reach 3rd level, you augment your martial prowess with the ability to cast spells from the Reaching Palm Spell List. The Reaching Palm Spell List contains any/all spells that use a melee spell attack or have a range of Self or Touch. You require no material components or spellcasting focus to cast your spells. See Spells Rules for the general rules of spellcasting and the Spells Listing for the spell list. You are a half-caster and use the Artificer spellcasting table to determine spell slots, levels, and cantrips.

Cantrips

You learn two cantrips of your choice from the Reaching Palm spell list that require a melee spell attack to be made or have a range Self or Touch. At higher levels, you learn additional cantrips of your choice, as shown in the Cantrips Known column of the Reaching Palm table.

Spell Slots

The Reaching Palm Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.

For example, if you know the 1st-level spell shield and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level spell slot available, you can cast shield using either slot.

Preparing and Casting Spells

The Reaching Palm table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your Reaching Palm spells. To cast one of your Reaching Palm spells of 1st level or higher, you must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.

You prepare the list of Reaching Palm spells that are available for you to cast, choosing from the Reaching Palm spell list. When you do so, choose a number of Reaching Palm spells equal to your Wisdom modifier + half your monk level, rounded down (minimum of one spell). The spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots.

For example, if you are a 5th-level monk, you have four 1st-level and two 2nd-level spell slots. With an Wisdom of 14, your list of prepared spells can include four spells of 1st or 2nd level, in any combination. If you prepare the 1st-level spell cure wounds, you can cast it using a 1st-level or a 2nd-level slot. Casting the spell doesn’t remove it from your list of prepared spells.

You can change your list of prepared spells when you finish a long rest. Preparing a new list of Reaching Palm spells requires time spent focusing on channeling your Ki: at least 1 minute per spell level for each spell on your list.

Spellcasting Ability

Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for your spells. You use your Wisdom whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Wisdom modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.

Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier

Reaching Palm

When you reach 6th level you learn to empower your spells with Ki, projecting their effects outward, increasing their range.

  • 1 Ki Point = Spells with range Self may be cast using range Touch
  • 2 Ki Points = Spells with range Touch may be cast using range 30ft
  • 3 Ki Points = Spells with range Self may be cast using range 30ft
  • Spells with range Self can use other creatures as targets
  • Melee spell attacks can be made at range or utilize ranged weapons
  • Cantrips may have their ranges increased for 1 Ki point

Reverberating Fist

When you reach 11th level, your spells strike with the force of your Ki empowered fists.

  • You no longer need to spend Ki points to increase the range of cantrip spells
  • Add your Wisdom modifier to your spell damage rolls
  • Add +1 Martial Arts dice to spells you cast at 1st level or higher
  • At level 17, add another +1 Martial Arts dice to your spells

Imbued Essence

When you reach 17th Level, you can imbue a creature with your Ki, storing spells that may be activated when needed.

Once per long rest, you imbue another willing creature with your Ki, storing a spell of 4th level or lower and expending the corresponding spell slot. The spell has a number of charges equal to your Wisdom modifier - spell level. (i.e.: a 1st level spell has 4 charges, a 2nd level spell has 3 charges, etc.)

While imbued with a spell, a creature can take an action/reaction to produce the spell’s effect from it, using your spellcasting ability modifier. Imbued spells are affected by your Reverberating Fist feature. If the spell requires concentration, the creature must concentrate. The spell stays imbued in the creature until its charges have been expended or until you use this feature again to imbue a spell in another creature.

You may use the Reaching Palm feature, expending Ki points to increase spell range, when you imbue a creature with a spell.
