Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Taking to heart the roaming nature of a Barbarian, those who walk the Path of the Roadhog learn to construct brutal steeds of iron and flame to trample any who would dare to restrain them. A Roadhog forms an inseperable bond with a magical motorbike or other mad vehicle of their own design, called an Iron Engine, and can fight in tandem with it in battle. Their Rage fuels their Iron Engine’s abilities and can turn their fearsome transport into a bloodthirsty war chariot in the blink of an eye.

The most skilled Roadhogs learn to further customize their Iron Engine to suit the needs of their adventures, allowing for them to ride even stranger and more powerful contraptions than before.

To a Roadhog, a road is more than just a path into town; it is the vessel that pumps the blood in their veins, driving them and their mechanical companion past the horizon in search of stronger monsters and bigger discoveries.

Metalworker

Starting at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with Tinker’s Tools. If you are already proficient with Tinker’s Tools, you gain proficiency with one type of Artisan’s Tools of your choice.

Additionally, you can use Strength instead of Dexterity whenever you attempt to build, break, or repair something with Tinker’s Tools.

Artisan’s Tools

You gain proficiency with one type of Artisan’s Tools of your choice.

Tinker’s Tools

You gain proficiency with Tinker’s Tools.

Iron Engine

By 3rd level, your furious tinkering has borne you a living motor vehicle, an Iron Engine. It's friendly to you and your companions, and it obeys your commands. See its game statistics in the Iron Engine stat block, which uses your proficiency bonus (PB) in several places. You determine the vehicle’s appearance, including the number of wheels it has; your choice has no effect on its game statistics.

In combat, the Engine shares your initiative count, but it takes its turn immediately after yours. It can move on its own, but the only action it takes on its turn is the Dodge action, unless you take a bonus action on your turn to command it to take another action. That action can be one in its stat block or some other action. This bonus action can be taken as part of the bonus action required to enter a Rage. If you are incapacitated, the Engine can take any action of its choice, not just Dodge. The Engine cannot perform Opportunity Attacks or wield weapons.

Your Iron Engine can serve as a willing mount for one creature at a time, designating you as its driver. You can direct the Engine’s actions as if it were a controlled mount. You can mount or dismount your Iron Engine by spending 5 feet of your movement.

If it has died within the last hour, you can use your Tinker’s Tools as an action to revive it, provided you are within 5 feet of it and you expend a use of your Rage. The Iron Engine returns to life after 1 minute with all its hit points restored.

At the end of a long rest, you can create a new Iron Engine if you have Tinker’s Tools with you. If you already have an Engine from this feature, the first one is immediately destroyed. The Engine is also destroyed if you die. If your Engine is ever destroyed, you may choose whether to grant a new Engine you craft the memories and personality of your old Engine, or to treat it as a new character.

Additionally, your Iron Engine benefits from the following changes:

  • Its maximum hit points equal 2 + your Strength modifier + 5 times your Barbarian level.
  • It has no Hit Dice. Whenever you expend hit dice to heal as part of a short rest, your Engine is healed for the same amount if you use your Tinker’s Tools to repair it.
  • It gains a bonus to its attack and damage rolls equal to your Proficiency Bonus.
  • It shares your Proficiency Bonus, which it can add to Athletics checks, Dexterity and Constitution saving throws, and its Armor Class.

Engine Upgrades

At 6th level, you learn how to upgrade your Iron Engine to aid you on your adventures. You learn three Engine Upgrades of your choice from the list below, choosing from an option whose level requirement you meet. Whenever you gain a level in this class, you may replace one Engine Upgrade option of your choice with a new Engine Upgrade option you qualify for.

After completing a Short or Long Rest, you can use your Tinker’s Tools to apply and remove any number of Engine Upgrades you know to your Iron Engine. Your Iron Engine can only benefit from 2 Engine Upgrades at a time, and any further Engine Upgrades cannot be added beyond that limit.

The number of Engine Upgrades you know increases to 4 at 10th level, and to 5 at 14th level.

Brutal Treads

You implent your Iron Engine with large spikes or sharp gears on its wheels. Your Iron Engine gains a climbing speed equal to its walking speed, and can move upside-down along horizontal surfaces for as long as it continues to move forwards.

While you are in a Rage, your Iron Engine is unaffected by difficult terrain on the surface it is driving on or through.

Burst Torch

(Prerequisite: level 10)

You implement your Iron Engine with a mounted firearm, capable of melting enemies with gouts of flame. Your Iron Engine learns the following Action:

Burst Torch. Your Iron Engine sprays a wave of fire in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 11 + PB Dexterity saving throw, taking 1d12 + PB fire damage on a failed save.

While you are in a Rage, a creature takes half damage, instead of no damage, on a successful saving throw against your Iron Engine’s Burst Torch.

Ghost Drive

(Prerequisite: level 10)

You implement your Iron Engine with a minor cloaking device. Your Iron Engine gains proficiency in the Stealth skill, and can travel stealthily at a normal pace. Any creature driving the Iron Engine can use its Stealth bonus instead of their own.

Whenever you enter a Rage, your Iron Engine and any creature driving it becomes Invisible for 1 minute, or until they take or deal damage, or dismount the Iron Engine. Starting at 15th level, this Invisibility can last for up to 1 hour, instead of 1 minute.

Hellsaw

(Prerequisite: level 14)

You implement your Iron Engine with a violently spinning blade, capable of tearing a foe into bloody ribbons. Your Iron Engine learns the following Action:

Hellsaw. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, range 5 ft., one target. Hit: 2d6 + PB slashing damage.

Whenever you enter a Rage, your Iron Engine can use its reaction to immediately make a Hellsaw attack against any creatures of your choice within 5 feet of it.

Portal Wheel

(Prerequisite: level 14)

You implement your Iron Engine with a teleportation device. As a Bonus Action while mounted on your Iron Engine, you and your Engine can teleport up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space you can see.

While you are in a Rage and you teleport using this feature, you can bring up to six willing creatures who are within 10 feet of yourself, and the range you can teleport increases to 500 feet. Each creature teleports to an unoccupied space of your choice within 10 feet of your destination space. You can teleport other creatures with you only once per Rage.

Ramshackle Rocket

You implement your Iron Engine with a large rocket, designed to provide limited flight. Your Iron Engine’s walking speed increases by 10 feet.

Whenever your Iron Engine performs the Dash Action while you are in a Rage, it gains a flying speed equal to its walking speed until the end of the current turn. If it is still airborne at the end of the turn, it falls.

Spiked Chassis

You implement your Iron Engine with fierce spikes or saws. Your Iron Engine’s Ram attack deals 1d10 extra piercing damage for every 20 feet it moved directly towards its target on this turn.

While you are in a Rage, your Iron Engine can add your Rage Damage bonus to the damage of its Ram attacks.

Thunder Cannon

You implement your Iron Engine with a rapid firearm, capable of launching bolts of crushing sonic energy. Your Iron Engine learns the following Action:

Thunder Cannon. Ranged Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, range 60 ft., one target. Hit: 1d6 + PB thunder damage.

While you are in a Rage, your Iron Engine can make two Thunder Cannon attacks as part of the same action.

Wicked Plating

You implement your Iron Engine with sturdy, intimidating armor. Your Iron Engine gains a bonus to its Armor Class equal to your Strength modifier.

Whenever you enter a Rage, your Iron Engine gains temporary hit points equal to your Strength modifier + your Proficiency Bonus. If your Rage ends and your Iron Engine has any temporary hit points, your Iron Engine loses all of its temporary hit points, and each creature within 5 feet of your Iron Engine takes piercing damage equal to the amount of temporary hit points lost in this way.

Eldritch Throttle

Starting at 6th level, damage dealt by your Iron Engine’s attacks and features counts as magical for the purposes of overcoming resistance to nonmagical damage.

Biker Bond

At 10th level, your bond with your Iron Engine becomes unbreakable. You gain the following benefits:

  • You and your Iron Engine can communicate telepathically with one another as long as you are both on the same plane of existence.
  • When mounted on your Iron Engine, you can share the damage resistances granted by your Rage with your Iron Engine.
  • Your Iron Engine can benefit from up to 3 Engine Upgrades at a time.

Undying Engine

At 14th level, your magical bond with your Iron Engine tethers you to each other, granting both immense power. You gain the following benefits:

  • When your Iron Engine is reduced to 0 hit points while within 30 feet of you, you can spend your reaction to roll 3d12 + your Strength modifer, healing your Iron Engine for the amount rolled.
  • When you are reduced to 0 hit points, you can choose to sacrifice your Iron Engine to continue the fight. Your Iron Engine is destroyed, and you regain a number of lost hit points equal to half of your Iron Engine’s hit point total (rounded down).
  • As a Bonus Action on your turn, you can summon your Iron Engine to your location, mounting it without spending any movement.
  • Your Iron Engine can benefit from up to 4 Engine Upgrades at a time.
