Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

There are those who spend their entire lives searching in vain for immortality. Some wizards will spend a lifetime perusing ancient scrolls, delving into labyrinthian archives, and scouring forbidden libraries in search of answers long since crumbled to ash and dust. Only the truly exceptional, or truly desperate, will ever study to become a semilich, a spellcaster capable of escaping mortality, and know what it is to stand on the cusp of eternity. Wizards from the School of Lichdom strive to tear a rift between life and death and what is known and unknown, for better or worse. Ambition and a hunger for self preservation drive those who study lichdom, motivating them to master spells pertaining to healing, necromancy, adaptability, and defense.

Partial Phylactery - You carry a partial phylactery for spellcasting purposes. It is a tiny object that can serve as your arcane focus. Determine its form by rolling on the token table or choosing one.

Token Table:
1.) The bones of your first familiar
2.) A kintsugi blood ruby mended with liquid adamantine
3.) A platinum goblet filled with unspillable blood
4.) A carved set of wyrm teeth dipped in gold and ash
5.) A hollow journal of maddening arcane knowledge
6.) An orb of amber from a long dead and burned druid grove

Am Become

At 2nd level, by imbuing yourself with necromantic energies, you have taken the first steps towards immortality and lichdom. Walking the fine between life and death has granted you certain benefits, including the ability to exist without the need to eat, drink, or breathe. If you had blood in your veins it is now stagnant, and if you possessed a heart it now withers.

  • Though your creature type remains the same, you are considered undead when being viewed through different divinations such as Detect Evil and Good
  • You have resistance to your choice of cold, necrotic, or poison damage.

Additionally, choose one wizardly invocation from the list below, a piece of forbidden knowledge acquired through your preliminary studies into lichdom and undeath.

Semilich Invocations
- Armor of Shadows
- Eldritch Sight
- Eyes of the Dead
- Mask of Many Faces
- Misty Visions

Armor of Shadows

You learn the Mage Armor spell. It is always prepared and does not count against the number of spells you know or can prepare.

Eldritch Sight

You learn the Detect Magic spell. It is always prepared and does not count against the number of spells you know or can prepare.

Eyes of the Dead

You can read all writing and the gold and time you must spend to copy a necromancy spell into your spellbook is halved.

Mask of Many Faces

You learn the Disguise Self spell. It is always prepared and does not count against the number of spells you know or can prepare.

Misty Visions

You learn the Silent Image spell. It is always prepared and does not count against the number of spells you know or can prepare.

Undead Aura

At 2nd level your altered state radiates a bone-chilling energy. At 2nd level, when you take this subclass, you can use a bonus action to create an aura of frigid magical energy as cold as the grave. For a duration of 10 minutes, a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus, any living creature that enters or starts its turn within 10 feet of you takes 1d4 + your Intelligence modifier (minimum +1) cold damage. You also gain 1d4 + your Intelligence modifier (minimum +1) temporary hit points at the start of your turn until the aura ends. You can choose who is affected by your aura. The damage caused by this pervasive cold increases to 2d4 at 10th level, and the radius expands to 15 feet.

Mummified Visage

By 6th level the truth of your physical decomposition becomes apparent, even as you grow accustomed to your own ghastly image. You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened and you learn the spell Arcanist's Magic Aura. This spell is considered a wizard spell for you and does not count against your number of spells known.

Rigor Mortis

At 6th level you can inflict some of your undead attributes onto others. As an action, once per day, you can cause a creature of Large size or smaller within 30 feet of you to make a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failed save, the target's speed is reduced to 0, it is unable to speak, it has disadvantage on Strength and Dexterity saving throws until the start of your next turn. The next attack made against this creature has advantage.

Living Corpse

Beginning at 10th level you no longer suffer from the frailty of old age, and you can’t be aged magically. Your body is now immune to disease, and your life span has increased tenfold. Additionally, when you activate your Undead Aura you can temporarily sacrifice some of your magical power in process, bolstering the effect for its duration. You may expend a wizard spell slot of your choosing and add a number of additional damage to your aura equal to the level of the consumed spell. This enhancement ends when your aura ends.

Rejuvenation

At 14th level your spell casting focus acts as a pseudo phylactery. Once per short rest, so long as you are in possession of your spellcasting focus, whenever you fall to zero hit points you immediately stabilize and return to one hit point plus your Intelligence modifier (minimum +1) and become immune to all damage until the start of your next turn. You can also be revived from death even under circumstances such as disintegration so long as your spell focus was not destroyed.
