Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Barbarians who follow the Path of the Masked Champion can choose to fight for a celestial or a fiend. Champions of the Divine seek to inspire their fellow mortals to heavenly aspiration while Champions of Desecration choose to strike fear into the hearts of the weak.

Mask of the Champion

At 3rd level, you choose either the Divine Mask or the Desecration Mask. Your choice reflects your alignment with either celestial or fiendish forces and influences your abilities accordingly.

Desecration Mask

You are the chosen champion of a fiend. As such, you gain the following features:

  • Cursed Strikes: While wearing the Desecration Mask, your unarmed strikes deal necrotic damage instead of bludgeoning damage. Additionally, when you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, it must succeed on a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength modifier) or have its speed reduced by half for 1 minute. The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.

  • Dreadful Presence: As a bonus action, you can instill fear in your enemies. Each hostile creature within 30 feet of you that can see or hear you must make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier) or be frightened for 1 minute. A frightened creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (a minimum of once), and you regain expended uses after a long rest.

  • Necrotic Surge: When you enter a rage while wearing the Desecration Mask, you emit a necrotic aura. At the start of each of your turns, you deal necrotic damage to each hostile creature within 10 feet of you equal to your Charisma modifier.

Divine Mask

You are the chosen champion of a celestial. As such, you gain the following features:

  • Heavenly Strikes: While wearing the Divine Mask, your unarmed strikes deal radiant damage instead of bludgeoning damage. Additionally, your unarmed strikes count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.

  • Inspiring Presence: As a bonus action, you can inspire your allies. Each friendly creature within 30 feet of you that can see or hear you gains temporary hit points equal to your Barbarian level + your Charisma modifier. These temporary hit points last for 1 minute. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (a minimum of once), and you regain expended uses after a long rest.

  • Radiant Surge: When you enter a rage while wearing the Divine Mask, you emit a radiant aura. At the start of each of your turns, you and each friendly creature within 10 feet of you gain temporary hit points equal to your Charisma modifier.

Champion's Wrestle

At 6th level, your wrestling prowess becomes legendary. While raging, you gain advantage on Strength (Athletics) checks and can grapple creatures of a size one category larger than you. Additionally, when you successfully grapple a creature, you can make an unarmed strike against it as a bonus action.

Masked Escalation

At 10th level, your connection to the celestial or fiendish powers intensifies. You gain one of the following features based on your chosen mask:

  • Divine Mask: Angelic Resilience: You gain resistance to radiant damage, and when you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can choose to drop to 1 hit point instead. You can use this feature once per long rest.

  • Desecration Mask: Fiendish Fury: When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, it must make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier) or be charmed by you for 1 minute. A charmed creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success. You can use this feature once per long rest.

Masked Ascendancy

At 14th level, you achieve the pinnacle of your masked power. Your unarmed strikes deal additional damage equal to your Charisma modifier. While raging, you can choose to unleash your full potential as a bonus action, gaining the following benefits for 1 minute:

  • You can use your Inspiring Presence or Dreadful Presence feature without expending uses.
  • Your Radiant Surge or Necrotic Surge feature also affects creatures of your choice within 30 feet of you.
  • You have advantage on all saving throws against spells and magical effects.
  • You can make an additional unarmed strike as a bonus action on each of your turns.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
